When I went back to the Merit booth at the San Diego Comic Con today, they were nice enough to take the time to answer some questions from me.

SDCC 09 – Merit International Booth!! (Part 2)

Now to the good stuff… 🙂

newmerit06I asked Merit about the status of the fabled 1:18 scale A-10 “Thunderbolt II” aka the Warthog. Unfortunately they had no concrete information if BBI was in fact going to produce one, or if there was any time frame for it.

They did ask me if I felt collectors would rather have a 1:18 scale F-15 or A-10? Of course I answered with a resounding “A-10!”. I explained that the A-10 was probably THE most requested fan favorite piece of aircraft out there. I also feel that it is iconic enough to attract non-1:18 scale enthusiasts to purchase one as well.

newmerit07So while there is no concrete info, perhaps word will filter out to JSI or the other Chinese manufacturers that we’d really appreciate getting a 1:18 scale A-10 before TOO long.

Another interesting tidbit, Merit said that the test shots of the F-15E in the Israeli scheme we’re more to show color in the test shots vs actually choosing that as the production scheme. Since they announced the F-14, F-15, and Su-27 all at the same time frame, they felt having three off-gray planes was a little much, so they chose a colored scheme for the F-15 to break up the monotony. So there is hope we’ll get a true USAF F-15 when and if they are released.

  1. Excellent – let’s hope that the people who make the decisions at JSI will listen to the people you talked with.

  2. Nice work Paul.

Beautiful answer on the A-10 or F-15 question. I hope they take the hint and push a 1/18 A-10 through before they do the F-15. I want both, but I know the A-10 is a more desired aircraft not just by me.

Here’s to hoping they listen and jump on it.

Oh…a 1/18 Hind would be icing on the cake next to a 1/18 A-10.
