Mass Effect 3 Review

Gaining the trust and assistance of the galaxy isn’t your only objective though.  The Protheans also play a large part in this game.  They are a race that was destroyed many cycles ago by the Reapers.  You discover artifacts and realize that they were trying to create a unstoppable weapon called the Crucible that is capable of wiping out the Reapers.  You attempt to recreate this weapon.  You will also have encounters with Cerberus leader the Illusive Man and his highly skilled assassin Kai Leng.

A new feature has been added called War Assets and Galactic Readiness.  You add War Assets by helping races,  militaries and individuals to improve your overall Readiness.  Once you have a high enough Galactic Readiness you are ready to take on the Reapers.  Once you have secured the assistance of the Galaxy and completed your quests,  you take the battle back to Earth for a thrilling and epic conclusion to the trilogy.  The last four to five hours of the game was very dramatic and exciting.

The game is rated Mature and you will be dealing with Mature issues.  Besides the obvious of going to war and shooting and destroying your enemies.  You will be dealing with political issues,  racism and of course romantic relationships which is a staple for any Bioware game.

You will also experience death,  lots of death.  You are at war,  part of war is death and sacrifice.  The ME series has done a great job over the years making you care about the characters and the third game is no different.  When a major character dies,  it’s very emotional and heartfelt.  You truly and honestly feel bad and sorry.  That’s a rare occurrence for a video game and one of my favorite parts of ME3.  I won’t spoil any of the deaths however I will warn you that not all of your allies will survive this game no matter what choices you make.

The Paragon and Renegade system returns.  At various times in the game you will have the choice to choose a Paragon action(good) or a Renegade action(evil).  Most of these occur during conversations and cut scenes.  My first play through I did a complete Paragon game except for one instance that I just couldn’t pass up.  Revenge can be very sweet!
