MAG Review

The next game mode is called Acquisition and it’s the basic Capture the Flag mode.  This is a 64 player team game mode.  You have 25 minutes to achieve your objective.  Attackers win by capturing 2 vehicles.  Defenders win by holding off the attackers in the 25 minute time limit.

Acquisition is a very difficult mode for the attackers.  You must fight your way through 64 enemies,  artillery,  bunkers and roadblocks to find a APC deep into enemy territory.  You must hack the controls and drive the APC back to your part of the map.  You must work as a team or you will fail.

The final game mode is Domination.  This is the much hyped 256 player mode.  You have 128 members on your team.  This mode also has vehicles and has a 30 minute timer.  For the attackers,  you need to obtain areas on the map labeled A through H.  The defenders need to hold out until the time limit.

Domination brings in another leader category.  You can achieve the “Officer in Charge” position to lead your 16 squad leaders and 4 platoon leaders.  By being the Officer in Charge you get some unique special abilities.

Domination is the most fun I had playing the game.  Having 256 players on the battlefield is as insane as it sounds.  It’s total chaos and filled with many deaths.  Most of my games,  it was hard to get people to work as a team.  When you have so many leaders,  live microphones and ideas going around,  it gets chaotic.

Before I go into my closing comments I will cover the Down Loadable Content.  MAG introduced 2 more game modes via DLC.  The first mode I will discuss is called Interdiction.  This mode features 64 man teams.  The objective is to capture and hold 3 neutral bases.  Each squad gets equipped with their own APC to assist them in battle.

The last mode is called Escalation.  This is a 96 player mode and actually features all 3 factions at one time!  The first objective is to capture 2 of the 3 main points on the map simply titled A, B and C.  Once you have 2 of the letters,  D opens up.  You must now rush to capture D.  If a different faction controls D,  the other letters are now available again and you need to repeat the process.  A meter is kept for each faction.  Every time a faction controls D,  the meter fills up.  The team with the highest meter wins the game.
