Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 Review

The 2025 missions aren’t bad however they just didn’t reach me like the 80’s missions.  You will depend heavily on drones, futuristic weapons and explosives and crazy armor like a invisible cloaking device.  The 2025 mission’s felt too easy in my opinion however that doesn’t mean that you won’t experience the usual “holy shit” moments that are an expectation in CoD.

New to the franchise is the inclusion of multiple endings and nonlinear gameplay.  You will have to make several choices during the story that will effect later missions and the ending.  This is a nice surprise to players who want to play the campaign more than just the usual reasons like trophy/achievement hunting.

Strike Force missions are another new addition to the series that are unique side missions that have a Real Time Strategy feel to them.  These mission’s are optional however they do effect the story and ending of your game.  You will control several assets like aerial drones, infantry troopers, and ground drones.  You can jump back and forth between them or control all of them at once like a general.  I found these missions to be very difficult even on easier settings and the best way to complete them is to operate only as a ground soldier and basically do everything yourself.  These missions have permanent deaths and limit your continues along with being timed as well.

Overall I’m pleased with the campaign mode.  Treyarch added several new features like the customizable loadout system before each mission which allows you to choose the best weapons and gadgets to fit your play style.  I do wish that they would have done more missions in the 1980’s or even better the entire game in that setting.
