DOOM 3: BFG Edition Review

Doom 3 BFG-12Doom 3 has plenty of firepower and with all the wicked enemies that you will encounter, you’ll need everything. Depending on the difficulty you play on, ammo will be scarce so you need to choose wisely which weapons you use. I’ve mentioned the mounted flashlight already. The flashlight is control by a L1 trigger and has short life span that always seems to run out right when you enter a new dark room. You will have 11 weapons at your disposal.

Doom 3 BFG-15You won’t start with all the weapons, you will have to find them along the way. You can carry all of them at once switching with a tap of a button. Classics like the Shotgun, Pistol and Fists are still there. You will use the Rocket Launcher, Chaingun and Grenades to kill tougher enemies. My two personal favorites are the Plasma gun and the BFG 9000.

Doom 3 BFG-7The best part about Doom 3 is the superb graphics. The game was already looker before this graphical upgrade in the BFG Edition. The masterful use of lighting, shadows and textures is a work of art. The Demons look phenomenal and the levels are well designed. The sound is right up there with the graphics. They did a brilliant job with the music, sound effects and spooky atmosphere. Excellent voice acting tops it off. I wish every game paid this much attention to audio.

Doom 3 BFG-5Doom 3: BFG also has a multiplayer feature and really what game nowadays doesn’t? I will say that BFG falls short in this aspect. You have a decent amount of levels to play but honestly they all started to feel the same. Spawn points are easy to figure out, you have limited ways to kill your opponents and the online mode just wasn’t very fun for me. The game’s controls and layouts are perfectly set for a single player experience and you can tell in the online mode.
