Joe Con 2013 Recap

On Sunday I attended Kirk’s seminar I discussed earlier and did one last lap around the sales floor before we headed for home. I would have liked to stay longer that day but the family was ready to go after 3 days at the hotel. There was a lot of discussion as to whether all of our purchases/winnings would fit in the car for the return trip, but with a bit of creative packing we made it all fit and headed out.

Some of my key takeaways were the following: It was a great experience and I am glad we went, but it was not the huge event I thought it would be, it was basically a small sales room with some peripheral events attached. From what I understand Hasbro usually has a much larger presence and the vendor turnout was very low this year. I think the Convention sets and exclusive items are really neat and look so much better in person than online.

I love both the carded figures and the glow in the dark packaging on the Night Boomer is an awesome touch. I can’t wait to get a nice display case and get everything out on display. We had so many positive experiences with people we met: club employees, vendors, talent, Hasbro employees and fellow attendees. Sure there were some jerks, but the positive vastly outweighed the negative.

It was cliquish, there are certainly groups that tend to dominate some things, but that is life and there is something for everyone. It is expensive, really expensive between registration, hotel, parking, exclusives and sales room purchases we could have probably done a Disney trip and I drove. At the end of the day we had a great time and I think I would probably attend another if I had the chance again.
