Comics: Iron Man – The Armor Wars

Availability

Iron Man: The Armor Wars collection should be available at your local comic book shop, Amazon.com, or other booksellers – it was reprinted just a few years ago. The individual issues are harder to track down, since they were published roughly 25 years ago.

Accessibility

Lots of armored people blasting at each other with rays and some blood in one scene. No strong language that I noted.

The story does rely on 25-year-old knowledge of the Iron Man mythos, but not heavily or to the point that someone who was passing familiar with the character couldn’t read and enjoy it.

Verdict

The plot is decent enough (and was, to a limited extent, the basis for Iron Man 2) and the art is good (particularly for the time), but it feels dated due to storytelling methods that aren’t much in use anymore. That may be enough to keep people away. If not, you’ll probably enjoy it.
