Comics: Invincible Iron Man vol. 1

Story

This isn’t writer Matt Fraction’s first time dealing with Tony Stark – he had previously written a series called The Order for Marvel Comics, in which Stark (as well as Pepper Hogan nee Potts) appears as a regular supporting character.

Into the story – Tony Stark discovers that someone is providing cheap technology to terrorists, who’re using it to become high-tech suicide bombers.

We learn right away that Ezekiel Stane (son of former adversary Obadiah Stane) is the one behind it all – he blows up a function that Tony Stark is at, wounding Pepper (in a way similar to how Tony has been wounded time and again) and making it personal for Tony.

Everything leads to a confrontation between Ezekiel Stane and Tony Stark – and Stane wins, killing Iron Man!

Wait, we saw this trick already, in the Armor Wars. And Tony’s next trick shows up in Iron Man 3…

The last part of the book is a later story involving Spider-Man that feels like filler. It’s well written and all, but seems tacked on.
