SDCC 13: G.I.Joe Brand

1.  Consistency

So far everything that I have discussed and wished for is 99% fantasy.  Do I think 2-5 would be great for the Brand and fans?  Of course I do and I know they would do well.  In reality though, not of those are going to happen.  Especially the way I want them too.  A big component that Hasbro is missing when it comes to the G.I.Joe brand is Consistency.

How many times has the brand gone through a reboot, delay or the dreaded hiatus?  Honestly it’s almost comical now.  We fans predict it when anything promising comes along and it’s to the point now that we expect it.  We have suffered through so many missed opportunities over the last 4 or 5 years.  I have honestly lost track and I’m starting to lose interest.

Cartoons with little to no figures, Cartoons being cancelled before they even get aired, Movies adjusting important source material, Movies getting delayed, Toy lines not available at big box retailers for months and years at a time and so much more.  I can go on and on and I’m sure you can too.

This can be fixed with Consistency.  I don’t care how they do it, you can reboot the whole franchise or continue on with ARAH or Rise of Cobra or Resolute.  Just make a decision and stick with it.  G.I.Joe has been filled with broken promises, crushed dreams and momentum killers worse then a Pick Six.  It’s time for that to change.

Probability:  0/10

I just don’t see this changing any time soon.  It seems like ever since the 2009 Rise of Cobra movie went into production, the brand has been in turmoil.  I hope I’m wrong and something special happens at SDCC 2013.

It’s been a fun ride.  Thanks for taking the time to read my pipe dreams and don’t forget to check out our coverage of SDCC 2013 next month.
