review-sculpt01

The sculpt, I feel, is quite possibly the saving grace for these figures. The detail they managed to get at a small scale is phenomenal, like they took their 7″ line and shrunk it down. I’m sad that my camera didn’t pick up all the finer details like that in the armor, or like the battle hardened lines on their faces. Except Clayton, whom is wearing a helmet(Also fantastic in detail). There’s so much fine detail that it’s hard to list it all, and it’s brought out by the paint, which is also one of the few real pluses I can give these figures.

The downfall here is that Neca uses plastic that feels just this side of brittle. I was afraid to put them into too many poses for fear of the figure shattering and embedding into my flesh like shrapnel. It may not be that bad, but it definitely felt that way!

review-articulation01

The articulation suffers, due to poor choices. The good part: it’s got some of the basic articulation, such as the head and shoulders. The wrists get a nice bend and swivel joint, the torso has a joint, the knees, all pretty basic. Then we get to the bad. Or, in this case, I’ll call it the “What the hell were you thinking?!” The elbows are articulated. They bend. That’s it! So you get ball shoulders, bend and swivel wrists, and an elbow joint that can’t even pull both of those together into a cohesive pose, because they were too lazy to add a swivel to the elbow as well!

That’s only half the problem! There are no ankle joints. And, AND… the hips are some weird abortion of ball joint and t-crotch cut joint monstrosity! Which is luckily mostly hidden by pieces of armor, otherwise it would throw off the aesthetics of the sculpt. And this bizarre joint moved so poorly, that because of the way the plastic felt, I was sure that they were going to just explode. Or worse. They could implode as a result of their extreme suckitude, causing a black hole to form that would just swallow the earth, so that we wouldn’t have to live with these figures any longer.
