Comics: Weapon X

Story

This was, believe it or not, the first appearance of the Weapon X concept. We see Logan get taken in, mind-wiped (a recurring theme for him) and prepped for the adamantium bonding process.

At the time Wolverine’s backstory didn’t include the bone claws, so this story explained it as too much adamantium being moved to his forearms or that general area.

There’s a complicated “virtual reality” bit in the middle that can be a bit confusing, but otherwise it’s a straightforward enough story. Logan gets upgraded and brainwashed, Logan snaps out of it, Logan kills everything he sees.

The story has since been referenced much since then in the comics, and was heavily referenced in both the X2 and X-Men Origins: Wolverine films. We’ve also gotten a number of action figures based on this story.
