Below is a Day 1 recap in darthdre758‘s words:

My Custom Con started at 1:30am on Friday. I was up, dressed and out of the house by 1:45. It’s about a seven hour drive to the Harrisburg area, so I knew I was in for a long day. It was a pretty uneventful drive. I stopped at a Walmart just over the PA border to stretch my legs and found nothing. For 5am, it was way too busy, and way too ghetto for my liking.

Day 1:

At about 9:30 am I rolled into the Radisson hotel and found where the convention was being held. Starwarsgeek and DW were the only ones there at the time, so we chatted for a minute and I unloaded my car, with their help. Once we had everything in, Fogger showed up and we helped him unpack as well. As we were finishing up there, Meddatron drove in. I’ve talked with Medd for years now (met him on Banthaskull.com) and it was nice to finally meet him. And finally, as Medd and I were chatting, Obi and Daremo drove in. We talked for a bit, and I wondered around looking at what people had brought and just talked shop really. I had a couple of things for Medd, so I was sure to get those to him.

Dave (SWG) and Daremo left for a bit to hit a supply store, and when they came back they had bought Little Ceasers Pizza for everyone. People pounced on that like a fat kid on…pizza. From there I went to work on a couple of projects I brought along with me. Obi came over and offered some advice which helped a lot. He also gave me a custom he did many years ago, when Banthaskull was just starting up. The Fighting 365th Lockdown Brigade Clone.

When I felt like I was getting a 100 yard stare going on, I would walk around and talk and check everything out. Obi had an impressive number of his customs there, old and new. Daremo was working on finishing the Kumite arena (which ended up looking awesome). Medd had a fantastic display of his Zombies and a couple of his building fronts. I added a kitbashed custom to it for fun. Fogger was working on a couple of different customs, one for Kumite and one for the Hero Quest game.

We talked a for a bit then I went on a quick toy tun. I hit a TRU and a Target. Neither had anything. I impulse bought two blind back K-reos from TRU and got Mindbender and Tunnel Rat. Fogger’s wife and friend came back letting him know they were hungry, and I felt the same. We hit up a place at Obi’s recommendation, and it was great. All three were great people to converse with, even though I was a relative stranger. When we got back, we did a run through of the Hero Quest game…and modded a couple of things to our liking. We had some great laughs, and good times.

It was getting on around 10:30pm or so and Medd was starting to pack up. The plan was for me to crash at his place for the night and then get a room for Saturday night. At that point I was dead on my feet and just wanted to crash, so I decided to get a room then and call it good. I got checked in and then hung out for a while longer until I couldn’t stand any more. I bid everyone good night, and said bye to Medd.

Day 1 thoughts:

Really great people who all dwarfed me…except maybe Daremo. He was still taller though.
