review-sculpt01

The sculpt is pretty good, though compared to what we’re gotten lately from even Hasbro, it’s a bit below par. That’s not to say they didn’t do a great job, but I think they focused more on the articulation and left things a bit lax on the sculpt. The Jhodpurs are flared (but has some weird holes that I haven’t yet determined their use), the jacket has some nice small details like the buttons, and minor folds and creases, and there’s pouches and buckles and belts, which have been sculpted with care and look good.

The head (and face) is where some things fall a bit short. I’ll probably repeat this ad nauseum through the other 5 reviews in this line, but it has to start somewhere. The expression is good for a commanding officer shouting out orders, and all 6 figures have faces that bear some minor similarity to them (A trait fitting for them being Germans during WWII), but have enough differences to set them apart. However, the detail of the heads and faces themselves is a bit lacking, and they come off a bit 2 dimensional and cartoony, as well as a bit undersized.

The only other downside to me was that there was some looseness in the joints, but that is the exception and not the rule, as I know others have received these figures and they have good tight joints.

review-articulation01

The figure has an impressive level of articulation, and really comes in with that ‘Joe standard’ of movement. Most poses were easy to get them into, and thankfully the “skirt” piece is soft, malleable, and also unplugs a bit from the front of the waist, so the one-knee and possible seated poses are certainly possible.

It’s impressive to see this kind of articulation in a non-Hasbro figure. Head, shoulders, elbows, bend-and-swivel wrists, torso, hips, double-knees, and ankles. Not only am I impressed, but I am also very appreciative. We’ve been wishing and praying for companies to take that step and use the same sort of articulation to no avail until Hiyatoys decided to take that leap.
