Joe Con 2013 Recap

From YT1:

When I heard that the 2013 Joe Con was going to be in Indianapolis, I made a snap decision to attend. I have been a GI Joe fan since the early 80’s and like a lot of fans, I left the hobby for girls and cars in my teens. When my son was born, I decided to go back to my parents and dig out my collection for him. I set up the Flagg in our basement and went looking for parts to bring it back to a more acceptable condition.

During my hunt for parts I joined several boards and got interested in the hobby again. This renewed interest coincided with the 25th line and I picked up a lot of those figures and vehicles, mainly on clearance and at closeout stores. This pursuit also spawned an interest in the 1/18 military planes by 21st, BBI and Admiral, which eventually led to huge collection of those types of figures and vehicles as well.

About a year ago on a board member’s recommendation I listened to an episode of the Flag Points podcast that featured an interview with Kirk Bozigian, former VP of Hasbro and one of the driving forces behind the rebirth of Joe in the early 80’s. I have since listened to all the Flag Points episodes and branched out into several other Joe podcasts. If you haven’t checked out Flag Points, I highly recommend it, I absolutely love their attention to the nostalgia associated with Joe, which is what I suspect keeps us involved in the hobby all these years later. What does all this have to do with JoeCon? I wanted to give an idea of my perspective coming into the convention and my opinions about the experience.
