Breaker’s Girl (#15-#17)

Before I give my thoughts on this story, lets get the low down from 1337W422102:

What happens when everyone’s favorite communications guy (the tosser with the cyber-backpack, mustache, and beret can eat a dick) meets a chick online? A three-part Ages 25 & Up story, of course! Join Breaker as he learns the hard way that sometimes you get more than you bargain for, and not in the good way.

The story, which originally ran from 28 November 28 to 12 December 2008, is officially called “Breaker’s Girl,” in reference to Rick Springfield’s timeless classic, “Jessie’s Girl.” It was inspired by Breaker’s 25th Anniversary figure’s reception. I remember people were bitching about the figure’s accessories (two sidearms? Flash’s backpack?) but mainly his head. Not only was it over sized, but it tried to blend the original figure’s appearance with that of the character in the comics (ie: the canonical one).

So, I took the over sized head thing, made a bad joke out of that, and milked it for three issues. I don’t like relationship comics, which is why I’ve tried to avoid them throughout A25U’s run. So, I figured I’d make a real short story about a disposable relationship that went nowhere, but not out of cynicism, mind you. I mean, my own failed romantic endeavors had nothing to do with the Breaker story, but would fuel #127 “The Final Letter”, although obviously exaggerated and blown out of proportion, as you’d expect for a criminal organization such as Cobra.
