You'll have to let me know what you think - I made it as far as book 3 and gave up.

I did The Lord of the Rings, but It's not something I'll likely read again. I kind of want to read The Hobbit. TLoTR drags badly in spots. On the other hand, I can read through the Harry Potter series and then turn around and want to start them all over again.

I couldn't get through Mein Kampf. It meanders and the style is off-putting.
I really should have picked up some books on Vietnam while I was in Barnes and Noble. I'll have to content myself with It is Dangerous to be Right When the Government is Wrong by Judge Andrew Napolitano.

I started reading MK in high school, but could only get through about half maybe. It was really not well written.

Exactly.

Maybe that's why no one caught on to what Hitler was about. They couldn't get through the book.

I have MK as well...never finished it, got maybe 1/3 through. I thought it would be some thought provoking book. He must have been pretty damn borning as a youngster and all the kids made fun of him for being a douche.

The Potter series I can read over and over. I have them all on Audio book and it serves as my background noise while I'm sleeping on the train for my daily commute.

My favorite series by far is the Harry Dresden novels. I've read and re-read the entire series and have them all on audio so I do the sleeping commute noise with those as well.

I've had the Dresden novels recommended to me a few times, have to pick those up at some point.

Of course, I have two shelves full of books I own already that I haven't read yet, and about 30 in the queue at the local libraries.

Stupid stickied thread that I couldn't find with a search. (I'm sorry, NSA! Don't make me look at Ewok's links anymore!)

I'm presently reading Ender's World, a book of essays on Ender's Game. The one I'm on now is by John F. Schmitt, who wrote Warfighting for the USMC.

And Geez NSA, couldn't you have at least combined Fogg's lazy search so I'll start a new thread with this one so it carried over his couple of posts?

Reading "After You Shoot"...pretty interesting so far...though, it seems some suggestions may make things worse for yourself, even if trying to make a point...

Quote:
Dial 911 and fry. You're gasping for air. You just stopped a would-be murderer cold with your sidearm, four rounds to the chest. Do you have the right to remain silent? Then how do you dial 911 and talk to a police voice recorder? How do you make that call and not say anything? According to criminal-defense attorneys, half of all convictions for self-defense incidents rely on frantic traumatized 911 tapes. As a bonus, the media will air your voice nationwide for weeks. That can't be right. Do you have the right to have an attorney prior to and during any questioning? What about your precious Fifth Amendment rights against self incrimination? How do you make a 911 call and protect your rights? You cannot. When you call 911 after saving your life with gunfire, you are giving up the crucial life-saving rights you think you have. And that's wrong. The dangerous snare of 911 recordings is built into the American self-defense system and no one has looked at it hard until now. After You Shoot lights up this overlooked problem and provides common-sense, workable solutions to these horrors vicious traps that threaten every gun owner and innocent crime victim in America. More than 70 experts contributed to the ideas presented here, the "common wisdom" that floats around is examined, and five specific solutions to the problem are provided, including the controversial Adnarim statement. Don't help convict yourself. Read After You Shoot.

Going through my mom's 6 totes full of books, I found a T. Clancy The Hunt for Red October hardcover.

Being a fan of the movies, I figured this might be in more depth.

There's many other books I would want to read, but damn, that woman could read. She belonged to 4-5 different book clubs and would read a book as soon as she got it. When we moved all of her stuff out of her boyfriend's house, I never realized how many she had.

I loved the Hunt for Red October! I read that in 5th grade.. it was one of the first "real books" I think I ever read.

What does the hardcover look like? Sounds sexy.

I love to read too.. but hate how the books accumulate. I rarely re-read a book too.
