Hollywood writers/directors/actors almost never get projectile weapons right. They are always screwing up the loading, carrying, cycling, pumping, accessorizing, trigger discipline, aiming and just about everything else. Seems like every single time a gun moves in a movie, it makes some kind of clack or other non-existent noise. And don't get me started about shotguns being pumped needlessly (oh, so you just didn't need that round?). It's actually refreshing when hollywood gets weapons even close to right...

I wonder why, cause I mean there are lots of people who are paid lots of money to be consultants for accuracy etc.

I wonder if certain things just don't film well? I am sure there is some level of idiocy or "don't care" involved, but the pervasiveness lends me to believe something else is afoot.

I feel like maybe it's filmed correctly, but the nerdy editors who don't have a consultant with them screw it all up.

"He moved the gun. There needs to be a noise. Add it..."

But the director has the final call on the cut. I think, in general, directors get their information from cartoons, so yeah...

Too bad Adam and Jamie (Mythbusters) didn't ever debunk that one before getting sick of each other.

I chimed in a while back on their viewer requests on their website asking for something on the order of "what would actually stop bullets?" after seeing enough I'll-hide-from-the-shooting-bad-guy-behind-this-sturdy-drywall garbage in tv/movies. They did a variation on that, tied into a couple popular movies and tv series. It was pretty informative, and should be required viewing for all writers and directors in Hollywood.

I was watching T.J. Hooker the other day, and a guy racked the slide on a 1911, then five minutes later apparently needed to thumb down the hammer.

Speaking of guns, how about the BK 3.7s on the Stukas in CoD:WWII spewing lead like a quad Bofors?

There were quite a few great movie/TV busting eps that should required viewing. One that always cheeses me off is how easily cars explode. They busted that nonsense and there have been a couple instances (unfortunately only a couple and I can't recall where I saw them) where typically there would be ridiculous explosions, but weren't. Maybe their influence is paying off?

Daughter dragged me to Transformers and walked out saying it was the greatest movie ever. I walked out with a headache.

I can't argue with that. I often wonder what kind of retarded shit my niece's future kids will find entertaining.

So true. She LOVES Netflix Voltron and even wanted the combining lions, but as soon as I put on the original show so we could both see the origins (I rarely watched it as a kid), she tuned out. It was the same as if my parents made me watch Howdy Doody while they reminisced (which never happened because that would be child abuse even in the 80's).

Yeah, to be fair, even I couldn't follow the old Voltron. I think it may be at fault for me having no interest in anime. The ONLY thing I liked about that toon were the lions and Voltron and any time that the main theme played. Other than that, it was pure

Real life answer (at least this was true 30 years ago) Hollywood purposely gets things like gun, explosives & other dangerous actions wrong. This is partly for moral (& legal) reasons. Imagine every kid in the school yard does the neck snap move or tries to make explosives out of household ingredients like they saw in the movies. We would have a serious amount of dead kids/idiots/morons.

Now that being said a lot of it also comes from learned behavor, if we see the car explode or the gun make the wrong sound, its because we have seen it in movies so often it might be problematic to put in the correct sound or have the car explode realistically.

The old voltron was heavily edited for US audiences to be packaged as a kid's show. Basically everytime someone bleed, died, raped or other horribly thing happened to them, the us version would replace that footage with that of the stupid mice. So a lot of it didn't make sense.

So Voltron wasn't originally meant for kids? That makes a lot of sense, as, even in its edited form, it was much more violent (actually killing people) than most US cartoons of the era.

It wasn't meant for American kids. Sailor Moon was similarly altered.

As was my very favorite Starblazers. Apparently the Dr was drunk thru the entire series when it was Battleship Yamato which explains why his eyes were @@ and shit was always swirling around his stumbling ass.

But they made the point (ad nauseum) that it was healthy crystal water (drunk out of sake glasses)

Each of the different Voiltron (there were 3) was orginally a different japanese series. The first season of Voltron, featuring the "Lion Force Voltron", was adapted from the Japanese anime television series Beast King GoLion. The second season, featuring the "Vehicle Team Voltron", was adapted from the unrelated anime series Armored Fleet Dairugger XV

Voltron 3 (He had 3 arms) was released as a toy but never made it to a US TV series.
