Terminator!

Presently it has a working slide and trigger, and I'm trying to keep both...which has been giving me problems. I also plan on giving it a working laser sight.

Yeah boy!

I realize there are sources for airsoft versions...but they are rare and expensive. Plus half the "fun" is doing it myself.

Thanks!

I also wanted to put weights inside this so it would have a nice heft to it. I tried this on a previous pistol prop I was making from an old water gun. I drilled a hole in it and simply added in all sorts of bits of metal.

Two problems-A) bits would break loose inside and rattle around and B) I tried filling in the hole I drilled but I could never get it to look right again...there was always a "divot" present no matter how much bondo or epoxy putty I used.

But in this pistol, I don't know if it would matter. The only place I could add weight is in the handle, and that makes it feel UN-balanced.

I could, but it probably won't be enough to make a difference.

Side project-laser-jpg

Side project-laser2-jpg

I've worked a little more on this project. I took the barrel extension (orange part) off because the slide mechanism wasn't working and I was going to graft it onto another of the same pistol.

But then I was handling it a few days ago and the slide mech. was working just fine! WTF?!

So, I glued it BACK on and applied Bondo around the join. This past weekend I worked on adding wires onto the laser pointer I bought at Petco. And wouldn't you know I saw almost the same thing for sale at Dollar Tree! Oh well, to late to take it back now. I don't know much about wiring, and these pointers are configured in a way that the casing helps conduct power to the laser diode part. I think there a way to make a battery pack with terminals that can then be hooked up to certain parts of the diode/board setup, but I don't think I'd have room for all that in the tube for the laser sight. As it is now, there's just a tiny bit or wiggle room around the pointer when it's inside the opening of the pipe...which makes me wonder how I'll get THAT to fit since I already have the button sodered (sp?) into place. I never have much look with soddering, so I don't really want to undo it.

Oh...almost forgot, since I had to take the barrel extension off, I was able to add some BB's and fishing weights to it to give it some heft. It's feeling MUCH better now.

Well this one is on hold until I don't know when. A few weeks ago I was working on it and I DROPPED the dam thing!

The orange barrel extension broke of (cleanly) but the slide stopped working completely. THIS is what I get for trying to build on what's basicly a Dollar Tree toy. Now if I want to move forward on this, I have to go and buy ANOTHER one. I've already bought three!!

I also tried making the laser sight support by heating and bending a thick piece of plastic, but man did that thing look like crap! I'm not sure how to get around that. I could try bending a thick piece of metal, but I'm not sure I have the tools to do that, nor am I sure a piece in the thickness I need could stand up to the forces needed to bend it.

Sucks when a seemingly cheap project turns expensive. As for supports, I usually try and find something existing that I can use. Cut to size of course.

I would have liked to use wood, but the top part where it curves over and the sight rests on it would be weak as hell.

I suppose that would work, the harder woods are harder to carve. I think I may give this a try Ed.

Now I have to go and get a replacement pistol.

I'm not exactly sure how the supports will fit in between, but if they are sandwiched, they will be sturdy as heck.

The support basicly extends from the top of one grip and when it gets about parallel with the top of the pistol, it curves over and flattens out. The laser sight rests on this "flattened" portion.

Gee thanks! But seriously, carving that out of wood would be much easier than what I was doing.

Although this isn't going anywhere if I can't find another toy pistol like the ones I was using. I've checked two out of the three gas stations that carried them and they are all out.

I suppose I could go ahead and build on the one pistol I have that the slide doesn't move on....but that defeats the whole purpose of me using this toy pistol.
