PIT Commando – “Covert Military Force”

The real selling point for the PIT Commando is the lion’s share worth of accessories he comes with. He comes with so many accessories in fact, that Hasbro left out the ubiquitous “spring loaded weapon” that is packed with most of the other Rise of Cobra figures.

The figure comes with enough accessories for three basic “variations” of trooper gear. You can, of course, mix these up how ever you wish, but for reviewing purposes I broke it down in these three variations: “Steel Brigade”, “Riot Patrol”, and “Covert Ops”.

First up, the “Steel Brigade” variation comes with the black iconic “Steel Brigade”-inspired helmet, a black tactical vest, a black large backpack, and what looks to be a G36 variant machine gun. This alone is more than the usual gear that comes with figures these days, and the quality is very good. My only issue with these pieces is the backpack and machine gun, the peg is not long enough to go through the tactical vest and make solid contact with the figure, so it is very loose, whereas the machine gun is made out of soft plastic, so it comes out of the retail packaging bent out of shape in most instances (I own two, and both have varying levels of distortion).

The second variation in accessories is the “Riot Patrol” trooper, who comes with a very nice flak-vest, riot helmet with face guard, a small riot shield, and what appears to be a black MP7 sub-machine gun. The flak-vest is AWESOME. It fits the PIT Commando well, and it also fits many other figures in the G.I. Joe lineup equally as well. It snaps together on both sides, so it is easy to pull on/off your figures.  The riot helmet is nice, and the face guard is function, though I noticed it does not fit very well on the PIT Commando when he is wearing the flak-vest, as the neck on the flak-vest is rather tall. Lastly, the riot shield is a very nice accessory piece, it has a small handle on the back to hold the shield.

Finally, the last variation of equipment is the “Covert Ops” assortment, which includes a blue-camo “boonie” hat with night vision attachment, a black SOCOM-style silenced pistol and a small black compact combat shotgun (I believe). The “boonie” hat fits the figure well, and the night vision attachment snaps on to the front of the hat, securing it decently. These weapons are good, quality plastic, and fit well in the figures hands.

This figure also comes with a removable gas-mask (Seen on the previous page), and the standard Rise of Cobra G.I. Joe figure stand.

header_package

pit-commando14The PIT Commando comes in the standard Rise of Cobra packaging, with artwork on the left side of the package and the figure placed on the right. The front features decent artwork for the PIT Commando, while the back of the package has his “file card” with minor details about the character.

The design of the packaging makes it very hard to get the figure out of the box without destroying the packaging and artwork. Great care must be taken (and use of a knife is recommended) if you want to save the artwork and the full card back.

  1. These are great figures, but the last thing i need is an army builder for the Joe team. GI Joe, for a covert force, is already too large.
