When I went back to the Merit booth at the San Diego Comic Con today, they were nice enough to take the time to answer some questions from me.

SDCC 09 – Merit International Booth!! (Part 2)

newmerit08Finally, I asked about another 1:18 product that is also near and dear to my heart, the Russian Hind!

I explained that a lot of people would really enjoy having a full-sized Russian Hind in their collections, if for no other reason than to finally have a use for the BBI Stinger missiles we all got with the Little Birds!

But seriously, the Hind is VERY iconic, its got a terrific look, doubles as a mini-transport chopper as well as an attack chopper, and it just all around full of cool. Merit asked me if I thought people would rather have a new 1:18 scale Hind or an updated 1:18 scale Blackhawk (with mini-guns, FLIR, paint, etc). I said that would be a tough decision, but since there are still Blackhawks/Pavehawks out there to be had, I felt that the Hind would be a better seller, and a better decision in the long run.

newmerit09While these are not “Yes! They are being made!” statements, it shows that they are interested in what we want to see (and buy!), and hopefully word will get back to JSI. I really feel that if the JSI F-14 is a resounding success (read: they make money!), we will start seeing more items that we’d all love to buy.

There you have it, a little more info for everyone to enjoy, I’ll see if I can pick their brains a little more tomorrow before we all go home!

  1. Excellent – let’s hope that the people who make the decisions at JSI will listen to the people you talked with.

  2. Nice work Paul.

Beautiful answer on the A-10 or F-15 question. I hope they take the hint and push a 1/18 A-10 through before they do the F-15. I want both, but I know the A-10 is a more desired aircraft not just by me.

Here’s to hoping they listen and jump on it.

Oh…a 1/18 Hind would be icing on the cake next to a 1/18 A-10.
