jsi_tiger_open_dio05This is an interesting review. This almost exact Tiger tank has been released in the past, but JSI has taken it upon themselves to rework a few things and re-release the fan-favorite Tiger yet again. I feel that JSI has both succeeded and failed in their mission to improve on the already good Tiger. By removing any kind of unit or county markings, it robs the piece of any kind of “place” in history it might represent, which I feel is a real detriment. The missing MG42 machine gun and mounting bracket is also sorely missed, as they will not be easily to obtain on the secondary market.

However, the new paint job, coupled with the fantastic spot weathering is outstanding and I am really enjoying the improvements JSI has made in that regard. The durability has also been improved, which is nothing to think lightly of (or at least you won’t after you’ve broken a tank or two!).

Finally, the lack of a figure, but addition of fantastic new packaging leads me to give this Tiger I the same grade as we gave the previous Tiger I, an A-. The JSI Tiger I managed to get there in a completely different way, but I feel both models stand out in their own right, and either would be a worthy addition to anyone’s 1:18 scale collection.

The JSI Tiger I is currently available from many online retailers for the list price of $80.00, though it can be found for less if you shop around.

I would like to thank Anthony from Merit International for the wonderful help with this review!

  1. Can any one tell me When in gods green Earth will JSI come out with 1/18 scale Modern pilot for any modern jet plane. Sky works has several different types and they look like junk in my opinion and cost 30 to 35 dollars for each one. I sure JSI can do much better for the same amount of money. For the amount of Money JSI demands for this plane, I demand a modern 1/18 pilot; I can’t see why I would won’t to buy another jet plane unless it comes with a modern pilot. Any and all comment welcomed.
