General Dynamics Light Armored Vehicle LAV-25

This is where everyone was disappointed no matter your opinion on Unimax. Despite a poor experience on the outside of the vehicle, if Unimax gave this vehicle the opening crew compartment, everything would be ok, but alas, it was not to be. There is no opening rear hatch. The top hatches don’t open either. Nothing opens on this vehicle with the exception of the Vehicle Commander’s hatch and Gunner’s hatch.

When you open the hatches, you see a small bit of molded in detail on the opposite end of the hatch cover that is supposed to resemble the hatches opening handle. The detail is poor and looks cheap. Inside, there are long shafts that hold the figures that have molded on details, but I’m not really sure for what purpose any detail was molded in.

Aside from those things, there is no other points of entry on this vehicle. No driver’s hatch, a consistent Unimax disappointment on all their offerings, and, again, no rear troop area. The vehicle, like it’s real life counterpart does have a lower, and wider body in the rear to accommodate the rear troop hatch. To me 50% of the work was already done on the vehicle to make the interior a viable option.

The LAV-25 is a recon vehicle and without the troop area that defeats 50% of the reason why the vehicle is in the field. I really feel that crushes a lot of the potential play dynamic for children, and spoils the entire vehicle for collectors as well. My son is seven and an avid military fan. He worships the bravo team line, but even he was really upset by the non-opening rear hatch.

If the Stryker gets made in the future, I hope it gets an interior to make up for the disappointment felt by collector’s everywhere. The Stryker is Unimax’s first “original” creation and by not bringing their A game, Unimax could lose a lot of collector support.

  1. Funny how UNIMAX makes the Stryker in smaller scale but not in 1:18th. If they did; it would surely sell. Quite immensely I might add.

  2. Almost forgot, the V on the vehicle represents 3rd Platoon

  3. Does the back of the vehicle have names on it? If it does, then you are correct it is C Co 1st LAR, I also saw this at Toy’r’us. The vehicle was commanded by my platoon sgt, Ssgt Kirby. I noticed that all the names on the back were spelled wrong, I am sure on purpose.
