Battlefield: Bad Company 2

… And say goodbye to your free time

Easily the biggest draw, and biggest focus of Battlefield: Bad Company 2 is the multiplayer component. It is clearly evident that the EA/DICE team spent the majority of their time designing and tweaking the engine to support fast and furious games with up to 32 players killing each other at once.

Whereas with the original I loved the story, Bad Company 2 has enthralled me with the amazing multiplayer experience. There is the requiset vehicles, from AH-64 “Apaches” to personal watercraft, and everything in between. The destructible environments are a joy to behold. See that sniper popping in and out of a window? Just take out the whole wall, and the Sniper with it, with your handy-dandy Carl Gustav rocket launcher! Planting C4 along the base of a building and watching it crumble down on your enemies is really an eye opener. There is just so many potential ways to kill people in this game, it’s incredible.

Now, all of this would be great, but EA/DICE when ahead and did something else.. something crazy. They practically FORCE you to work as a team. This is a 4-man squad based shooter. Sure, you can lone wolf it, but unless you like sniping and being a general disservice to your team, you better join up in a squad and push forward soldier! The design is genius, you form one part of a 4-man squad, and every other person in your squad is essentially a mobile spawn point, i.e. if you die, you can spawn at their location after a few seconds. This really helps keep the flow of battle going, and can turn a last-man-standing into a rout!

This setup really encourages communication, and though not everyone is on board with this in public games, I have made numerous friends already by just being a team player and helping out my fellow squad mate. When you join a game with a 4-man squad who already know each other? It’s a sight to behold!
