Mass Effect 3 Review

ME3 has one new major addition that I feel wasn’t necessary.  They have added a Multiplayer mode.  I understand why they did,  it adds to the replay value but for the ME series,  you know what your buying.  Your investing in a Shooter/RPG with an amazing story that you can play through and relive multiple times at 40+ hours on each play through.  Multiplayer isn’t needed,  that’s for games like Call of Duty and Battlefield.

The Multiplayer is pretty basic.  You have one game mode with six possible stages on various difficulties.  It’s comparable to Zombie Mode on CoD.  You and other human players get thrown into a stage and have to survive waves of enemies.  Although I’m not a fan of the multiplayer,  I will say that I enjoyed it.  If I didn’t need to play it to obtain Trophies/achievements or needed to play it for review purposes,  I would have never played the game mode though.

Mass Effect has never been shy on Down Loadable Content and ME3 is no different.  A DLC titled “From Ashes” was available on the day of the release.  It sparked a controversy among fans that this DLC is programmed on the disc already.  That means that this DLC was intended to be part of the original game and Electronic Arts pulled it out of the game and charged $9.99 to play.  EA has denied this and came out with an official statement saying that the DLC was completed after the game went into production.  Both sides have compelling arguments and I’m sure more details will come out over time.

Is this DLC worth the $9.99 price tag(the DLC comes free if you pre-ordered the N7 Collectors Edition)?  In my opinion it is.  With the DLC you get a weapon,  alternate costumes for your entire squad,  a mission on Eden Prime and a Prothean Squad member.

The Prothean is worth the DLC alone.  He is my favorite character in the entire game.  I would bring him along on every mission I could and his dialogue and quips really added to the experience.  Not to mention he is the last Prothean in the entire galaxy!

In conclusion,  ME3 lived up to the high expectations and hype.  The game delivers on everything that I expected.  Incredible story telling,  top notch graphics and sound.  Amazing voice acting,  improved controls,  and a overall enjoyable experience.  ME3 ended the trilogy in a way that is sure to please fans and new comers alike.  I give this game the highest rating possible.  10/10
