Homefront Review

My favorite part of the Online mode is the vehicles!  You can drive a pretty good assortment of vehicles including Humvees,  LAVS,  and Attack Choppers.  You can also have multiple people in a vehicle at a time.  My buddy and I have done some major damage in Abrams Tank.  It’s very enjoyable racking up 20+ kills flying around in a Chopper or blowing up a Piranha with a RPG.

Online Mode has plenty of customization.  You have a wide variety of guns and accessories to play with.  As you earn experience,  you will gain access to all of the perks.

Battle Points is the most important feature of Multiplayer.  These are earned much like experience.  These points are currency to be spent during matches.  Each loadout(which is almost exactly like CoD) gives you two slots that can be purchased.  With these slots you can select a Flak Vest or RPG or if you want to snag some quick kills you can choose a hellfire missile or napalm strike.

You can also use your slots for Drones.  Homefront has many Drones available like a flight drone that can fly around the battlefield highlighting enemies with a red diamond to help your team or you can use a ground drone.  I usually stayed away from the drones.  I was more of a run and gunner and vehicle man.

The BP’s are also used to summon your vehicles.  When you use BP’s for a vehicle,  other members of your team can use BP’s to hop into your ride,  so you don’t have to waste time searching the battlefield to have teammates join you.

Another cool feature is the “Battle Commander” mode.  When you play this mode,  your team will get notifications of high ranked players in the match and make them priority kills.  For instance,  if you go on a kill streak,  the other team will mark you on the map as a high threat.  If you kill a high threat you get bonus BP’s.  If you’re a high threat and continue your streak,  you get additional BP’s.  The highest threat you can be is a 5 star threat.  It usually takes vehicle to pull this off.

One of the best parts of the online mode is each match doesn’t really feel like a match.  I would lose track of time and play for hours.  The online mode has a perfect balance and variety.

Overall I really enjoyed Homefront.  The game has a fantastic story mode,  a fun and addicting online mode and a great control scheme.  I’m willing to overlook some of the games faults like the very short campaign mode and graphics that look much older than a 2011 game should.  However when scoring the game I have to consider these flaws.  I’m giving Home front a 7 out of 10.  This game was reviewed exclusively on the PS3 and is also available on the Xbox360 and PC.
