The X Reviews: Cobra Invasion Team Firefly

Paint

Paint is actually fairly minimal on this figure. What paint is there is done well. Minus the face in flesh, the cobra sigil on the right shoulder, and some minor applications on the explosives, there isn’t much. Firefly is molded in gray with darker gray camouflage touches applied here and there. I prefer the subtlety of it, not just because it’s not overdone, but because it fits the look of someone who is just supposed to fade into the background to do his dirty work. You don’t need overdone camo to hide, you need subtlety, skill, and subterfuge. All of which Firefly has in spades.

Accessories

Like most figures of recent lines(POC, 30th), Firefly here comes with a rather grand assortment of accessories at his disposal. Unfortunately, most are molded in this rather bland grayish-sandy plastic color, and don’t do this figure any favors.

Sure, it’s a good bunch: Two knives, a pistol, grenade launcher, tactical shotgun, two explosive devices, backpack, and webgear. All but the explosives, backpack, and webgear are molded in that ungodly-colored plastic. The latter three are in a gray that matches Firefly’s attire, and the explosives have some extra paint apps to make them stand out.

The webgear is easily removable, unlike his 25th Anniversary counterpart, and the explosives peg onto the front and back, though the rear one won’t stay on well with the backpack pegged into place. The knife slides into its sheath, pistol into its holster, but there’s really a lack of storage for the rest of the weapons unless you can stuff them into the hollow back of the pack. Since I’ve decided to stash the weapons in a box and replace them with some better looking ones, it’s of little consequence to me.

The one thing that he should come with, but like his Retaliation comrades, he does not; Like the rest, Firefly does not come with a stand. A shame, really. When you consider how many spring-loaded weapons could have been omitted for the sake of having stands, it is really a no-brainer. But, somehow Hasbro decided they weren’t necessary. As long as you have spares, this isn’t a problem.
