X Review: Alley Viper

review-sculpt01

The Retaliation Alley Viper shares much in common with his 25th and POC counterparts, including the head, helmet, arms, and legs. The torso is a new addition, and is shared with Duke and Flint. If anyone makes an effective use of the torso, the Alley Viper possibly does it best. This is, perhaps, the torso that should have come with the DOCI/POC versions, and would have been even better if paired with the vest from the POC Alley Viper in a matching color scheme.

So you get all these armor plates, straps, and pouches mixed in with sculpted creases and folds in “fabric”. Unfortunately, since some of this figure if reusing parts from earlier lines, the detail doesn’t quite match up. The arms and legs are a little plain compared to the sculpting of the torso.

review-articulation01

Articulation-wise, the figure’s pretty basic. On-par with 25th/ROC/POC figures in that regard. Thankfully they found some parts to reuse, so that he doesn’t get stuck with the same single knee joint/no ankle articulation that so many others are suffering from.

Articulation is as follows: Head, shoulders, elbows, regular wrists, torso, hips, double knees, regular ankle. When you have a brute-force soldier with the regular ankle articulation vs. the new rocker ankles, I will say that the rocker ankles aren’t necessary. But this also highlights the fact that they still need better articulation than so many we’re being given. The Alley Viper, a loaded down, kick in the door, shield-toting, guns blazing sort of figure gets better articulation than the stealthy, crawling through AC ducts saboteur. Standards, Hasbro! Find some!

  1. i was so excited about this figure and wanted 10 like the others, but as soon as i got it i was like, nvm. this thing is trash.. so this and the dark ninja quickly became a NO to my army building.

i’m glad though, i really cant afford to army build this line except will make way for night viper.
i’m just gonna save my money to army build the damn tomahawk.. and just buy a few indivisual characters upon release. not sure what other army builder is in this line, hopefully not many says me wallet.. what, your wallet don’t talk? mine’s empty, so it’s constantly flappin’..
