5 Things that I want to see happen to the G.I.Joe Brand at SDCC 2013

Renegades

5.  The Announcement of a new G.I.Joe Cartoon

The ideal cartoon would be a continuation of the underrated G.I.Joe: Renegades.  Renegades aired in 2010 and 2011 for 1 full season.  The cartoon did a fantastic job updating characters, telling several short stories inside a big story, and throwing easter eggs to fans at a rapid pace.  The most important part about the show was how much fun it was to watch.  The unique art style took some getting used to and the original airing placed the shows out of order.  Accepting those minor issues and looking at the whole picture, this is without question the greatest G.I.Joe cartoon ever.  The writers also perfectly set up a second season and could easily get another 3-5 years.

Probability:  3/10

The chances of continuing the Renegades cartoon is slim to none.  The chances of getting a new G.I.Joe Toon is very high, however I don’t see it happening at SDCC.

4.  50th Anniversary Plans

The 50th Anniversary of G.I.Joe is next year and the best way to celebrate the milestone is to hit the fans with a great toy line.  The first thing that comes to my mind, is to finish making all the updates that were missed during the 25th and 30th celebrations of the A Real American Hero line.  I want to see updates on Leatherneck, Gung-Ho, Monkeywrench, Duke and Cross Country as much as every ARAH Fan.

This is the 50th Anniversary though, we need to go big!  The first thing I want to see is no named figures based off of each Military branch in high detailed 3.75″ figures.  This can be wave 1 of the line and it will sell like hot cakes.  Wave 2 will continue the celebration by sporting 1 key figure from every decade of G.I.Joe.  A 1960’s style Joe Colton, 1970’s Adventure Team Joe, a ARAH accurate Duke, 1990 will see a Sgt. Savage and the 2000’s would be represented by Lt. Stone.  Every figure will receive new tooling and feature the latest and greatest in 3.75″ action figures.

Wave 3 will be filled with missing ARAH updates and re-dos of poorly made figures.  This is where we finally get a correct Monkeywrench and Gung Ho along with completing our collections with Frostbite and Cross Country.  Wave 3 will have 12 new figures that will make all ARAH fans go nuts for.

We will also get 1 big vehicle update that Joe fans have been clamoring for.  A newly tooled Whale with Cutter in classic retro packaging.  To round out the 50th Anniversary, a special box set will be offered at retail.  A 13 figure set of the original 13 Joes from 1982 all re-done and available in 1 perfect set.

Probability:  1/10

Will a 50th Anniversary happen?  Most likely in some form even if it’s only in a 12 inch throwback figure.  Will it happen the way I described?  Absolutely not!  Will a 50th Anniversary be announced at SDCC?  Don’t hold your breath.
