X Review: Data Viper

Paint is simple, with the figure molded primarily in that gray-blue. There’s a cobra symbol on his chest, some yellow, black, and grey, and… that’s about it. The head is white and black with some red detailed ‘eyes’. The outer piece is the same color mold, with a bit of darker grey camo, numbering(032), and red detail on the ‘rockets’ and the ‘eyes’ of the helmet.

It’s fairly simple but the figure stands out. I don’t think it’s from the paint job, however, and is likely more related to the bulk and presentation of it.

Like a lot of his case mates, Data Viper comes with a lot of accessories, though most are directly related to the outer suit. You have that main section, an antenna and radar dish, two “rocket” launchers, a drone, helmet, two guns, a stand, and a couple of pieces that attach to his arms. These are the most confusing, because while I get that part of it is to control the drone, the forward-most part of each doesn’t make any sense being there when the joysticks are in the middle of the whole assembly.

He can, thankfully, carry everything at once. Guns on the drone, drone on the back, everything attached, helmet on. It looks cool, all in all.

The two major downfalls here, though, is that he’s a) back and top-heavy, and b) the outer suit doesn’t clip or lock into place at all. Sure if you push it enough it friction locks, but a few shakes and he’s loose. It doesn’t peg into the back or anything. With the helmet on, it doesn’t move, but I’d like to be able to pose him fully suited with the helmet off, too… and not worry about things falling off.
