Black Ops Part 1-3 (#38-#40)

Before I give my thoughts on this classic, lets get the low down from 1337W422102:

Whoa, now we’re going way back! I’d forgotten that I’d made the Black Ops story. It originally ran from May 8 to 22, 2009, back when I didn’t know what the hell I was doing. Not that I’ve figure that out since, mind you.

Black Ops was the first time I tried to do a remotely serious story. I don’t think it was that serious, just not intentionally funny. Beachhead and Dusty are chosen for some kind of secret black-op, a mission so secret, they aren’t even briefed before their Black Hawk gets shot down.

I don’t remember where the hell I was going with that story, but I do remember that the bits about “black armour” were references to that smeg-awful attempt by Hollywood to make a movie loosely based on the G.I. Joe franchise, and “next-generation special forces” is a reference to Metal Gear Solid, which I parodied/paid homage to in the Plastic Gear Solid: Tactical Espionage Action Figures story which ran in 2008.

Looking back at Black Ops, I don’t know what the secret mission in question was about, or if I’d even made one up. The entire setup might just have been an excuse to take a stab at that movie and put Dusty and Beachhead in a serious situation. I mean, the scene after the end in Part Three hints at something bigger, but that was just me teasing, since I don’t have the playset in question.
