Ori Toy Q and A

This Q and A was conducted with Kit Lau who is the Designer for the Acid Rain World Toys with the exception of Question #12 as that was answered by Ori Toy because it involved sales. It’s time to enjoy the Q and A!

Q1: What brought you into the 1:18th (or close to) scale?

KL: The Acid Rain World has big tanks, vehicles and battleships, figures in 1:18 scale which are relatively smaller than 1:6 are easier for us to create these big tanks with the right proportions. The 1:18 scale figures can be collected in mass and create the battlefield scene which most of the military figures collectors, including me like to do

Q2: The figures seem to work with parts from other lines pretty well. Was this intentional or just a byproduct of what you were working with?

KL: You have shown good observations! I am a collector of other lines as well so I would like the figures to interact with other lines to create more possibilities and expand the overall military toys world

Q3: Was anyone on the design team fans of other lines and if so was there any inspiration from them for Acid Rain?

KL: I am the only person in the design “team”! But as all of you know, bringing a design to a real product is a big project, it involves many parties and Oritoy who is responsible for production plays a big role in it. I was born in the 70s and am a big fan of many lines, from Gundam, Macross, Star Wars, Transformers, to ThreeA. I think all these lines play a part in my creation of the Acid Rain World – the story and the products.

Q4: Transforming vehicles are an interesting item to offer. What was the thinking during the creation of the brand that brought on the mechs?

KL: The vehicles can be transformed because they have to! Resources are scare in the Acid Rain World and vehicles have to play different roles and perform various functions and adapt to the difficult environments. Of course, as a big boy, transforming vehicles are always appealing as they are playful and fun.

Q5: Will there be a tie in to a comic, cartoon or even a hero clicks game with the Acid Rain line?

KL: It is backed up by short stories and illustrations.

Q6: The Stronghold comes in Marine or Sand, what other environments are possible and what made you choose these environments first?

KL: At first the Stronghold came in Marine for defence purpose in the story, the Sand version came later as the war broke out so they were put on the land. Depending on the flow of the story and also the change of the environments, for example, snowland, jungle, etc., the vehicles will be adjusted.

Q7: What environments do you have planned for the figures?

KL: Snowland, jungle, deserted cities are are possible.
