Hiya Toys Q and A

Enjoy the Exclusive Q and A between Major Blood and Hiya Toy:

Q1: Intellectual properties can be tough to work with. How long has the process been to deal with larger companies for approval?

A: By approval process, there are several stages: 1) Design Approval – drawing based on license information, 2) Prototype Approval – 3D model, 3) Paint Master Approval – painted model, 4) Packaging Approval, 5) Finished Good Sample Approval – from official mass production with package in an complete kit. Usually pure approval process including preparation will last at least 6-8 months if everything goes smoothly without any adjust or amending. Challenging for our Time-to-Market since these will be in the whole licensing period.

Q2: What benefits have the 3D modeling given you as opposed to artist rendition and do you use both?

A: In OURWAR series, e.g. WWII german soldier, we do more artist rendition more than 3D modeling. We got ideas from lots of pictures, movies, historical documents etc to create our own figures. But for Aliens and Apes which are authorized by FOX, 3D Model gives us direct measurement and feeling on how final article will be, which has to be exactly the same.

Q3: Might you consider doing something like diorama or weapon packs in the future?

A: We are considering to make some scenes out of our figures. E.g. street combat, patrol in the field. These can well represent the fun of collectibles and extend the spirit of modeling. As for weapon pack, it is also in consideration. Will be in next design.

Q4: The detail on the Aliens figure is amazing! How difficult was it to get so much put on a smaller figure?

A: As matter of fact, the bigger articulated figure, the easier to make. But since we are doing all range within 3.75’ standard range(human size), 4’ Alien is really a challenge. All parts, joints and linkages concept coming from experience of 3.75’ 101st Airborne and WWII German figures. During production, so small parts in assembling are indeed our headache. We build a complex process and procedure in our contract manufacturer to make sure each step is under control.

Q5: Are there any plans to touch on some of the different types of Aliens such as the Queen, bull, etc?

A: Our plan is to maximize our range in Alien Movies. Colonial Marines, other Alien characters or even Queen are in our consideration. We say they would come in next wave.

Q6: You have stated on Twitter that you have no plans to make Colonial Marines. Could this change if the Alien figures sell well?

A: Definitely. As mentioned above, if Alien figures have good market response and selling, next Alien figures will be marines. Ideally the player can put them together in a scene or create more stories with available figures on hand.
