[REVIEW] Acid Rain World Raptor MK1

118logo144x144The Acid Rain world [1] is the brain child of creator Kit Lau and made by Ori Toy.  These figures and vehicles are in a world where war has created a poisonous environment for almost anyone to live in.  There are different divisions like with any army and the vehicles are more than just a way to get around.  They transform into mechanized extensions of the operators.  Instead of being limited to certain terrain they transform into  different types of mechs.  From the Stronghold down to the Raptor MK1, these are an impressive display of creativity that suck you into the Acid Rain World.

review-background01
Raptor is the nickname given by the Marine soldiers to Speeder MK I. The production of Raptor originated from the defects and inadequacies of Stronghold. Since the mass production of Stronghold, several problems were identified. Although Stronghold’s firepower is particularly strong, its speed and defensive ability have become its fatal flaw. To cope with the anti-tank soldiers and the above problems, the strategy must be adjusted. An easy to control, flexible, fast and with a certain standard of firepower machine guard came to exist.

With the development of Speeder Mk. II has become mature, Raptor has become less active on the battlefield. Given it’s still reliable, it can be found on many battlefields.

Interior
There is not much of an interior to the Raptor.  It is a small support vehicle that has a fairly exposed driver.  It consists of handlebars, a seat and foot pegs for the driver to get positioned.  There are of course a few controls to not only drive but to also transform and maneuver the Raptor when in mech mode.

Exterior
The exterior of the Raptor is well done.  One thing that separates the Acid Rain line from a lot of others is the weathering.  Out of the box the vehicle looks as if it has been in the elements for a long time.  In vehicle mode there is a small amount of protection for the driver.  This is a fast attack vehicle so not too much has been put in front of the operator.  The wheels are a durable all terrain design that look as though they can go through whatever environment they are subject to.

When transformed the Raptor not only changes in height, but also in how the driver is exposed.  There is a small plate that covers center mass but leaving the head exposed.  Their hands are also slightly covered.  Once elevated the gun underneath has more area to wreck havoc.  It is of course a smaller type of Gatling gun similar in diameter to what the Agurts have.  The MK1 does not have arms similar to the MK2.  This is mainly a fast moving protection vehicle to make up for the sluggishness of the Stronghold.

Construction
The construction on any of the vehicles I have reviewed has been top notch.  There has been nothing flimsy and all the parts click into place nicely.  When in mech mode the Raptor has a few positions.  The legs can have the main body raised and lowered to have different levels of exposure.  Looking at the MK1 and the MK2 it is easy to see the improvements that were made to accommodate in the battlefield.

review-paint01
The paint applications on the Raptor is excellent.  Not a detail gets missed on the one that I have.  Everything is crisp with no bleeding.  The weathering is also done fabulous.  The Acid Rain line is very consistent with the product they put out from what I have seen.  From the vehicles to the figures there has been nothing of disappoint.  Once you have one in hand you can truly appreciate the time that has been put into each piece.

review-accessories01
There is not much in the way of accessories.  It comes with the operator and that is mainly all.  There is a rolled up blanket on the back that could be removed if wanted.  The operator does have a removable helmet also.  Other than that the only other item that is included is a poster with transforming instructions. The figure does have good articulation.  As with all the others, you can put it in positions that most other lines can not do because of body or joint restrictions.

review-package01
Finally, the packaging.  It has a cover sleeve with an illustration of the Raptor.  Once that is removed the box has the Acid Rain logo on it and there is a hole to feel the texture of the vehicle.  This also is on the sleeve too.  There is no plastic bubble to open so you can keep the original package intact.  The figure and vehicle are in a Styrofoam container and held in place tightly.  It is nice so that if you do not want to display or have to move items you can easily put it back the same way you got it.

My final verdict on the Raptor is a solid A.  I would like to have seen the operator have at least a sidearm or something to access from the vehicle in case of it being disabled but that is just my nit pick.  Besides that Ori Toy and Kit Lau have really collaborated beautifully to bring vision into reality.  I personally will be looking forward to see the items that were shown at SDCC come to life.  If they do as good of a job on the upcoming figures and vehicles then everyone is in for a treat.
