I was brought into collecting when the GI Joe 25th anniversary came out. After dealing with repaints and sub par vehicles I started searching around for something a little better. A friend turned me onto the fighting 118th and I started moving towards a more realistic "verse" for my figures. After seeing a few dioramas from members on the site I got the bug for them. There is a certain quality of person that contributes to the site and that is what has kept me coming back. Everyone is honest about what your work can have better and really helps you to get the best out of yourself. I am MAJOR BLOOD on the site.

Member Highlight – Footloose

Here at the fighting 118th we appreciate all the great pictures and customs that everyone shares with the site. To say thank you we do a member highlight on occasion to showcase a member’s work. Footloose is the most recent member that has been chosen. You have probably seen his Z-wars action figure comic and also the thread that he shares his pictures with (along with the “one shot” thread). So from the 118th staff, we’d like to thank him for bringing his work over and taking the time to share some info with us. Following are a few questions that I had sent for a little insight on what got him into dioramas and photography.   Name:  John Patterson Location:  Sarasota, Fl Q: What got you into photography? A: Honestly I just picked up my camera one day and ... Read More »

SDCC 2012 Shockwave HISS

Ah, Hasbro.  Another year has gone by and you come up with another decent crossover exclusive.  Although the tank was not the highlight of the set there was plenty to make this worth it if you got your hands on one.  The HISS is a painted up Retaliation tank that has static treads.  Those and a glass canopy are two things I’m not a fan of.  The design of the new HISS tanks are ok but of course Cobra overlook certain engineering features.  Open turret?  Is this 1984 still?  Let’s protect that gunner already!  The attack mode is fairly worthless too.  It points at the ground.  Great of you want to dig a hole I guess. The did manage to use a barrel similar to the original Shockwave though.  It is a little smaller but has the same design minus ... Read More »

Cobra Stickers “Summer of Skystriker” giveaway

With no Retaliation product coming until 2013 most likely and things looking dismal for a lot of GI Joe product this year, cobrastickers.com has a great way to turn that frown upside down. When you place an order with them you are entered to win one of three custom Sky Strikers from them. Skywarp, Thundercracker and Starscream will be the ones up for grab. Taken from their home page: “From now until July 31st, every order that includes a product from our Factions Section will be entered to receive one of these beautiful planes. We’ll be kicking things off with the lovely Starscream Skystriker.” So, since product will be far and few between most likely now would be a great time to work on some of those projects you may have had on the back burner.  Looking to restore an ... Marauder Series 6 – A brief review

Well now that series 6 has been stocked and shipped, it’s time to look at some of the new items that have come out. Most of these have more “modern” looks and accessories to them ranging from the stocks to the picatinny rails.  Some of the scopes have been upgraded too along with a laser.  Let’s not forget a throwing star for your ninja’s too. First thing I noticed about these was that they seem to be more durable.  Most of the grips are thicker than some of the older waves as are the new stocks.  One thing that does though is stretch the hand of the figure you are using it with so be prepared to heat it up if you want it to handle some of the smaller items again.  Most of the weapons can be held in ... 2012-2013 “Officer Club” Membership Drive

It’s that time of year again folks! The Fighting 1:18th is having our annual “Officers Club” membership drive. The purpose of this drive is to help offset some of the yearly costs associated with the website. We are 100% advertising and sponsor free, and expect to remain that way as long as we can continue to! We have always felt that accepting money from manufacturers or retailers would cheapen or influence some of the reporting and reviews that we do, so we decided we’d go at it alone and do things out way whether people liked it or not. It gives us the freedom to do what we want, and say what we think, and so can you! This site is completely paid for by the staff, and from donations by our members. These are the benefits you get for ... Read More »

Say it ain’t so, Joe!

Well, sounds like GI Joe Retaliation will be put on the back burner for a few months. Thanks to Charade for showing us the General Joes article and to Paul Pratt of the hisstank.com forums for some good links regarding the details. Read More »

Men In Black figures are here!

What is one thing that many people would love to have in their 1:18th scale collection?  Suited figures.  They have plenty of applications yet are far and few between.  Well the Men In Black figures are here to save the day.  No more $30 SDCC Destro bodies (although it is a nice pin stripe suit).  For $10 you can finally have that suit to add to the ranks. Thanks to Gungho-joe we have a few images of what these figures look like.  They are a little wide in the shoulders but that’s not a deal breaker for myself.  Here is some information from Gungho-joe about them: “I found them at TRU. They were 9.99 each. They also have deluxe figs with the noisy cricket and nueralizer. I got my boys the deluxe figs since they wanted the life size “props” ... Read More »
