2012 Officer Club Recap

Each new year several media outlets take time to revisit the previous year sharing the good the bad and the ugly. During the final few months of 2012 I considered the idea of creating a year in review editorial or even a type of awards for the site. As I was tossing around ideas I decided to focus my attention to one of the greatest features of the site.  What I’m going to discuss is one of the most asked about sections of the forum.  Several members both old and new are curious about it’s perks and what really goes on in what we call the Officers Club. The purpose of the Officers Club is to help offset some of the  site’s yearly cost so we can remain 100% corporate advertisement free.  We have always felt that accepting money from ... Read More »

Member Highlight – Footloose

Here at the fighting 118th we appreciate all the great pictures and customs that everyone shares with the site. To say thank you we do a member highlight on occasion to showcase a member’s work. Footloose is the most recent member that has been chosen. You have probably seen his Z-wars action figure comic and also the thread that he shares his pictures with (along with the “one shot” thread). So from the 118th staff, we’d like to thank him for bringing his work over and taking the time to share some info with us. Following are a few questions that I had sent for a little insight on what got him into dioramas and photography.   Name:  John Patterson Location:  Sarasota, Fl Q: What got you into photography? A: Honestly I just picked up my camera one day and ... Read More »

Countdown to #200

Forum member 1337W422102 is famous for his weekly comic series “Ages 25 & Up – Comic with Balljoints”. 1337W422102 who is commonly referred to on the forum as “Numbers” or “Leet” has transformed a  mostly background character like Clutch into a much loved heroic character.  Ages 25 and Up features comedy and Easter eggs for all fans of comics, cartoons, toys, movies and popular culture from the 1980’s to present day. The comic was first published in 2008 and has experienced several milestones throughout the years.  Ages 25 and Up has featured serious stories,  an ode to GI Joe comic #21,  an amazing take on Captain America, yearbook style issues,  a vote of confidence from Larry Hama himself and an epic #100 issue that used stop motion!  The comic has sparked it’s very own Q and A’s with questions submitted by the fans and ... Jinx: Anatomy of an SDCC Exclusive

Hot on the heels of both Sgt. Slaughter and Zarana, fans found out at Toy Fair earlier this year that the 2012 SDCC G.I. Joe Exclusive would be the red-clad female ninja, Jinx. Just a few days ago, we finally saw the first glimpse of the card art in the form of leaked samples from China. As always, the overseas samples stirred up a cruel hybrid of excitement and gnashing of teeth among the collecting communities as they await the chance to either get her at the Convention for retail price, or pay ridiculous prices on the secondary market to obtain her as non-attendees. Each year the exclusives have more and more commotion surrounding them as rabid fans prepare for the unavoidable frenzy to add them to their collections. But why? Ever since Hasbro launched the G.I. Joe “25th ... Read More »

SDCC 2011 – First Time Experience

Well, SDCC has come and gone and it was quite the experience. From getting up obscenely early to wait in line to seeing exclusives and talking to vendors it was all a great time. This being my first time I was not really sure what to expect but luckily I had a seasoned veteran with me. Read More »
