I mostly just would 3D print on my Snapmaker for scale purposes before I send out my 3D files for prototypes but I invested in a Elegoo Mars printer back in December. It’s pretty cheap ($300) in comparison but I’m having a ton of fun with it.

Currently, I’m only doing 1/12 scale because my outsourced printer does top of the line 1/18 prints.

I'm currently in the market for a 3d printer in the $500-1000 range, and I have no clue where to start. What printer, what software... I can't really find any with top notch reviews, but I never know if the product is bad or the people writing the reviews are morons. That's true of all product reviews, but especially so with something technical like a 3d printer.

The Elegoo Mars is a UV resin printer so it's a little more of a hazard than other table top printers. It gives off a little bit of an odor and the resin can quickly irritate the skin but it delivers great detail and results in comparison to a lot of them and it's only $300. I paid $900 for my Snapmaker plus enclosure and the Elegoo Mars prints circles around it. I know Star Wars Geek just got one and he's probably has had a bunch of fun with it. The only thing you need to know up front is you're going to have to figure out how to post cure the resin. For me, I switch my floor drop in my lightbox and pop a UV light in there. Easy Peazy. There's a lot of introductory videos and review videos online that are pretty helpful.

If you order one and remember to get resin with it, you could be up and printing in 20-30 minutes. It comes with a USB with the first test print and an installation file for the compatible slicing software.

Yep the Elgoo Mars is a GREAT printer. I've had one since October, and once you couple it w/ a design software for what you want to make you'll have a great time w/ it.
