Well if you are going to hang them you will have to either tape some fishing line or put small holes on the edges. I'd think 6 points would be sufficient to do so. Or, you could make a ring for the inside that you could attach to it that is the same diameter and hang it with one string from the center. It will be a trial and error adventure but that's how I would approach the issue.
Never tried, but how about two pieces of plastic (bubble packaging) supporting it North/South, and another East/West?
If I get time, after work, I'll try it tomorrow to see how it would look.
Hobby Lobby / Michael's have clear Christmas decorations that are balls, but go together ala clamshell. But I don't know if they are big enough to support a chute fully open.
