Gears of War 3 looks like a damn modern game. 4 looks insane.

Wildlands looks prettier in 4K, but not a huge difference. HDR seems better as well.

Load times seem quicker as well across the board.

My friend got one and he has a 1080p TV and isn't noticing too much, but if you have 4K+HDR I'd say this is worth it.

It makes OG Xbox and 360 games better, and future proofs you for another 2 years or so.

I've been seeing the load time comparisons and it seems to take a few seconds off here and there, but not the 50% faster M$ was stating. I wonder if a solid state external drive would do the trick of if the USB 3 connection would become the bottleneck.

$500 is enough of a chunk that I worry about buyer's remorse for marginal improvements until the price drops, but damn do I want it now.

The biggest issue for me is once you switch you really lose your frame of reference. Is this faster? Does this look better? Since its an mid-gen updated instead of a whole new thing.. it's hard sometimes to think back at how things looked before.

Pretty much all previous games run better or smoother on the X though.

Guessing it'll be that way for upcoming releases as well. It's quiet too.

Still need to check and see if UHD movies are any better/different on the X.

I mean, every game is better in some way. The 16x AF goes for every game, patch or not, so everything across the board will look better.

The patched games have all seemed way better. Load times are better.

I don't have my S hooked up right now, so I'm not doing back and forth comparisons, but I haven't had any issues with the X since launch.

The Battlefront II trial looked amazing on the X in 4K/HDR.

Welp, I’m sold. This X is every bit the jump as the 360 to the One. I guess writers and reviewers are getting hung up on the fact it plays the same games as the One and runs the same OS and therefore it is not a new Gen. Honestly, I could see this being the way forward in the console world just as it is in the phone, tablet and pc world. Just keep offering stronger hardware every 2 to 3yrs and eventually newer games will just stop supporting the older gear.

My day one has not been full of rose tinted glasses since I am experiencing some glitches. These have been noticed in game and out of game, so hopefully my X just needs to burn in a bit. If it’s still glitchy after a few days, I’m swapping it out. It’s just too expensive to take a chance that I got one with a bad chip or a broken solder joint somewhere.

I can’t get over just how much better games look. I’ve only messed with 1st party games, but the way it makes 10yr old games look is ridiculous. It’s given new life to my entire library of games and I now look forward to finishing some of the ones I stopped playing.

Happy holiday season to me.

Same here! I'm grabbing a bunch of old games on sale because I want to see how they perform now.

Everything just runs better. Every game has 16x AF (a-something filtering) so it makes everything seem clearer and crisper. The better load times/etc are just gravy.

Looking forward to seeing how 2018 games use the power, since they'll have some dedicated dev time to polishing it up.

I do think Microsoft wants to go the cell phone route with an alternating X/S every 2 years or so. The big key will be how they phase out devices down the road. How do you tell someone with an OG Xbox One that the new games won't be playable? Or do they do a PC-type situation where it still plays but just plays poorly? The whole benefit of consoles is things "just work".

I think the idea has merit, they just need to be careful how they do it.

It'll really be a shakeup if they manage to pull it off.. think about it, the Xbox 360 had playable games from 2005-2014 at least. New Xbox One ONLY games started coming out at the tail end of 2013, but some got dual releases (Titanfall, MGS5, etc).

I wonder if they'll keep 3 versions active, or only 2. If they keep 3, you could have presets for "High, Medium, Low" quality and once Low is no longer achievable that device gets dropped? This is all presuming an Xbox One Two doesn't come out and have games that ONLY get played on that device.

I fully expect a Playstation 5 to come out and have exclusive games. If Microsoft can somehow make it so the NeXtbox comes out and has backward and forward support.. it'd go a long way. I just hope they can do it without having to gimp games to run on older hardware.

Duh... They do it by just making games a subscription service. They are pushing that at this very moment. Just turn the whole damn industry into a cable tv stream of games. Buy the box, pay the subscription. Games lean heavily on micro transactions ala phones and tablets and Battlefront 2.

I hate to admit how much I love my Elite controller. I can’t stop touching it. I feel like soon it will be sleeping on my nightstand. Is that wrong?

Yeah the Gamepass is an interesting idea and I hope it catches on. It's a super cheap ($10/month) barrier to entry and it gets you like 100 games to play. I'm surprised each new console doesn't come with 3 months or something to get people hooked.

The patient people wait to play on Pass (Netflix) the impatient people buy the game up front (theaters). I'll probably fall somewhere in the middle.

I think Xbox needs to make sure they keep the power narrative. When the PS5 comes out they better have something in the wings more powerful. The OG XB1 being inferior for the PS4 was a killer for them this generation.

They went full Sony for the Xbone after slaying the dragons in the previous 2 gens built on raw computing power. Let’s hope the old philosophy is here to stay. They better have a full VR powerhouse waiting to counter Sony in two years. Wireless VR headsets are a reality now, so maybe they can step into that arena with Vive for Xbox XI.

Phew.. Slid in right at the buzzer on this one.

Finally decided today to trade in my X1 and X1S to Gamestop with the extra $50 bonus cash. Ran into a ton of issues with the kids today and finally got home to box everything up and both consoles needed updates before I could reset them.. Watching the clock click closer to 9.. Finally left the house at 8:45 and raced over there.. Walked in at about 8:53 and plopped down my systems to trade and the (very nice) girl behind the counter said they were closing and if I could come back tomorrow to trade in the systems since they were about to close.. I was like, uh no, I need to do it now. I was that guy, forcing them to stay late to do my trades. Not my finest hour.

However my systems were both updated and completely reset so it took a lot less time than she thought. She said only 1 system would get the bonus and I said "OK" and told her to just ring both through and I'd take whatever it gave me.

Sure enough, both promos went through, $225 for a phat Xbox One that I got off a Jet.com slickdeal for $225 like 3 years ago. $275 for a Battlefield 1 green Xbox One S I paid $399 for 2 years ago.

The only X console they had in stock was a Project Scorpio so now I'm debating if I return it for a gift card and wait for the BF V Gold rush edition or just keep it and consider the deal slick enough.

To top it all off I had some Gamestop rewards points I used to cover the tax and walked out with a trade card for $12.
