Okay, so the Joe team has a bunch of redundant roles and some silly ones, and they're probably lacking some realistic military roles.
But here's something I'm wondering if you guys can help out with... I'm considering making some original characters as custom Joes with back stories, but I'm needing a little help filling out some specialties that we're missing. I want them to feel "Joe"-like, and my goal is to see if I can pull off the vintage goodness. We're talking ARAH, none of this Devil's Due or IDW nonsense, as cool as some of those guys can be. (Unless there's some really cool ones that I'm missing out on!)
Some roles I thought would be interesting:
A "Warden" - We've never had a Joe SuperMax facility, at least as a toy or character in the cartoon (or comic, so far as I've read, anyways). We've got the Flagg, the General, MCC, etc. One playset I always wanted as a child was some sort of SuperMax prison guy who was on the same level as Keel-Haul who ran the Joe's SuperMax facility for Cobra detainees. Like a Guantanamo Bay or something for the ruthless terrorist organization. Like Marvel's "The Vault" or Arkham Asylum. I dunno. A name I was batting around was "Stockade", "Lockdown", "Locktite", "Stronghold", "Deadbolt", "Ironsides" or something similar.
A Joe Chef - Not Roadblock... Probably like that Joe chef who was shown at Joe Declassified, or wherever it was that posted it. It was supposed to be the original mail-away instead of Steel Brigade, I think.
A Joe Mechanic or "Mad Scientist" - Kinda like Doc for gadgets (Doc sorta did this in the Sunbow toon). Or a good guy version of "Dr. Mindbender". A "Ratchet" or "Wheeljack" for the Joes. Matt Trakker from MASK shoehorned into the 25th doesn't count. Seems like the Joes would have some sort of weapons supplier, or quartermaster or something. Chief science officer? "Garrison"?
Joe Security - Not an MP, but a head of security. Also thought of "Blockade" or "Stockade" here. "Deadbolt" or "Shakedown" maybe?
Night spotter or partner to Low-Light: "Rooftop" always sounded like a cool name.
Or some more modern roles that they're missing, or other fun suggestions. Some of these are dumb, but so are a lot of Joe specialties.
