Been a long time since I looked into 1:16 RC tanks and was pleased to find the Chinese ZTZ-99 available for the US. Instant order with my Paypal balance. Now my Leo 2a5 will have something to shoot at. :)

Was really drunk lastnight when I found this tank. Definitely have no business purchasing a $200 behemoth at this time in my life, but o'well. Guess I'll pick 2 shocktroopers to sacrifice as tc's and enjoy the fuck out of it when it arrives. :)

Stock photos made the thing look massive, but it looks great next to the M2 and the Cobras. Looks to fit right in.

I thought it looked a little bright in the first pics, but now that you've added some detailing, it looks much better! Cool stuff PCS.

Thanks Midget. I couldn't agree more about the bright greens that Japan and China use on their armor. I had to lay the wash on extremely thick to tone it down.

I turned to the guts today and am very pleased with the results. Rebuilt the gearboxes with steel gears (they come with pot metal) and a pair of Graupner 400s motors that I had tore out of my Walker Bulldog. This tank is a real runner. Highly doubt I will add any upgraded parts in the future.

Just sayin'.

The original green looked really "toy green" though.

That green makes it look like a plastic toy, but is highly acurate. Tamiya sells jdf green and it's almost identical. Thankfully my old Type-90 taught me how to tone it down significantly.

I'm just really happy that I didn't have to start from scratch with the paint.

I have no doubts it's accurate- it just looks super green to my eye.

I think it looks better the way you did it, though.

Thinking about it a little more- when I said "toy green" I should have said "factory green".

Give the real deal a few weeks in the sun and mud and it probably looks much more muted.

No, toy green is right. It makes everything look like plastic, like a hasbro toy. :)

Yes, the digital green on the real type-99 looks incredible, but I do not have the skills to do it.

Those are awesome and all, but as a cheap bastard I think I'll wait until fall when the PTE stuff shows up a big lots.
