Weapon Storage?

So I was thinking of making a weapons room diorama and wanted to see how it was really done. Not ever having been in the military, (needed to many waivers) I have no clue what real military weapon storage looks like. So am asking for people in the know to post some pics.

"Armory" is the word you want.


That second one is probably fairly accurate. In the regular army ammo is stored in an offsite, secured location. For the sake of doing it the "Joe way" you'll want ammo cans for your dio.

It's not as glitzy and glamoury as you may think. If your thinking of the Commando 80's movie w/Arnold in it, it's nothing like that. I know in the Marines our weapons are basically stored in a large caged room with some make shift wooden tables on the outside so Marines can clean them before they give them back to the armorer.

but then again that's the Marines, we still use sh-t from WW2. The Army might have better facilities.

I didn't really expect that it would look like a showroom at a gun show, but at the same time I was pretty sure that the military isn't using hooks in pegboard.

At Fort Leonard Wood, The Defense Distribution Region East, and at Ft Indiantown Gap, our weapons were stored in a caged room in vertical racks very similar to the one below, exact details of the cases I don't remember. Every spot for a weapon was numbered and each weapon was numbered. Each base was slightly different, but same style set up. Each one of them the room locked up like Fort knox. I was in the Army Reserves.

You can't go terribly wrong (okay, you can, but we're gonna be optimistic) as long as the shit is secured.

I honestly haven't seen a wooden armory bench since Boot Camp- I was just at the French Creek armory about two months ago- they're not glamorous, I'll give you that- but Marine armories are pretty much on-par with what I've seen from the other services.

Most armories are pretty spartan from what I've seen. Usually a large vaulted metal door, with a solvent tank and metal cleaning benches outside. The racks pictured are exactly what I've always seen. The inside usually has one computer used for maintenance logs, a work bench (to include a heavy-duty vice), and probably at least a small box of tools. And assorted solvents and cleaning rags. And some sort of de-humidifyer, if they're lucky. That's usually about it.

On deployment- anything goes- if a door can lock, it'll probably get used as a make-shift armory. In Iraq our guys used a quad-con locked with chains.

I'm just going to say that it depends on what unit then, because when I was with 1/2 that's exactly how it was. I've been out for about year now but knowing how cheap the Marine Corps is I'm not gonna say it changed too much, LOL.

Yup. Got out for about 8 months in '09, but got right back into it.

I was just down in 3/6's area not too long ago. CLNC still has a crap ton of construction going down... it's getting ridiculous. The traffic circle is ridiculous.

Anyways, I'm glad I'm out but do miss it sometimes. Since I wasn't collecting back then how often do the Joes and Starwars figures stay stocked over there? Do they even carry anything over at the PX or the 7 day stores?

Man, if you had joined last year I would have pointed you to a PX. They were carrying Unimax figures and vehicles for a little while.

I actually have no idea what the stock in the PX looks like- I'm reserves now. I was there for a pre-deployment buildup. Didn't hit the px too much.
