I just used a regular Stanley knife with the retracting blade. Don't try to cut through at once - multiple passes will give the best result. A steel ruler is a great help for keeping your cut lines straight. And yes, I just used the clear plastic blisters from toy packaging for the windows.

Don't hold the can too close to the surface, don't spray when it's too cold or too humid - pretty much the same techniques as spraying normal paint.
