Serving as a security officer for Extensive Enterprises, Adam Jensen is caught in the fallout of a firefight between Snake Eyes and the Cobra saboteur Firefly. Left for dead, Cobra Commander insists Destro use the young soldier as a guinea pig for their latest breed of super-soldier; a bionically-engineered Machina Viper who has Baroness's tactical HUD, Zartan's chameleon tech, Major Bludd's enhanced strength, and Destro's dermal armor. Not wanting to allow Cobra Commander access to such an unstoppable fighting force, however, Destro leaves out the control chip and allows Jensen the free will to choose his own future.
Feeling betrayed by Cobra for making him more machine than man, Jensen defects to the Joe team becoming the third operative to do so under the codename Mercer. Armed with a tranquilizer rifle and concussion grenades, Adam uses non-lethal takedowns whenever possible. However his left arm houses the retractable broken blade of Snake Eyes' sword; a reminder of the vendetta he has sworn to carry out against the Joe ninja.
Armaments: Silenced Tranquilizer rifle, concussion grenades, retractable carbon steel katana blade; Adam Jensen is outfitted with bionic augmentations granting a degree of enhanced strength and speed as well as active cloaking, advanced optics, and an immunity to environmental hazards such as toxic gasses and electrical fields.
