I have a couple of bbi M249 SAWs and M4A1/M203s that are the same size as the Marauder M249 SAWs and M4A1/M203s. But I also have a couple of bbi M249 SAWs and M4A1/M203s that are smaller than their bbi and Marauder counterparts: exact weapon but smaller in size. I'm not talking about a shorter barrel length or anything like that. The M249s and M4A1/M203s in question are the ones that came with the bbi "Modern U.S. Navy SEALs" figures that are wearing black uniforms and are paratroopers.

I'm hoping that someone reading this has the bbi paratroopers that I'm referring to so that they know what I'm talking about! I'm just a little confused as to why bbi would've "shrunk" these weapons down, when in the first place they looked to be in the correct scale and size.

Why would bbi modify the overall size of these weapons?

It just happens sometimes. I happen to think Marauder gets it wrong sometimes, too. I think the 1:18 manufacturers got weapon size wrong sometimes. 21st's PK was really small.

M249 SAW
L = 40.94" OR you could just round it to 40", to keep it simple.
Divided by 18 (72"man = 4"fig)
40 = 2.22
40.94 = 2.27
SO... correct scale would be in the ballpark of 2.25" +/-

M4A1
L = 29.80" (stock closed)

29 = 1.61"
29.80 = 1.65"

The manufacturers are all over the place, some are the right length but off in other areas.
I just go with what I feel looks best, and try to stick with one design for a set of figs.

Exactly. The brands that are more "to scale"(Bravo Team for example), tend to not be THE best in detail. MJ's stuff is great for detail, but it's damn near better suited for 5" figures. BBI's stuff goes back and forth from small to large, so your mileage will vary. Hasbro is Hasbro.

A couple of the bbi M249 SAWs that I have measure 3-inches in length, compared to the Unimax/Bravo Team ones that are right around 2.25-inches. The Marauder M249s are 2-1/2 inches long.

One bbi M4A1/M203 that I have measures out at 1-1/8 inches (open stock), whereas another bbi M4A1/M203 with open stock measures out at 2-1/8 inches. The Marauder M4A1/M203 with open stock also measures out at 2-1/8 inches.
