Why Bruder doesn't work for 1:18

My father has bought a few of these for my son. Mostly the construction equipment. Backhoes, a crane, loader and a log truck I think.

If I remember to, I'll take some pics with some Joes on/in them.

Because 1:18 really is an American thing. That and the Germans don't give a fuck. Hell, there may be 1:16 figures in the Fatherland.

The area Tractor Supply Company has some 1:18 oldschool tractors and a 1:18/16 (i don't recall) Bobcat front-end loader i'm tempted by.

As a German I really did not like your expression "Fatherland". First of all, scale 1:18 really is an American thing? As far as I recall the first company to build scale 1:18 toys was the Italian manufacturer Burago about 40 years ago. Secondly, if you think e.g. GI Joe is scale 1:18, perhaps measure the figures carefully. In reality 3,75 inches represents 1:19 more accurately than 1:18 because in the last 30 years the average size of people grew while the toys did not. Thirdly, I myself used several 1:16 scale Bruder tractors and other Bruder vehicles in 1:18 dioramas and they fitted very nicely. Scale 1:16 and not 1:18 simply happens to a standard scale for farm and civil construction models. You can buy 1:18 die-cast farm vehicles e.g. from the German company Schuco, but these models are expensive. By the way, in Brazil where I live, 1:18 figures are not so easy to buy and rather expensive. That counts even more for military vehicles. Nevertheless I do not complain that the Americans want to keep them all for themselves.

Any slight found was in the reader's own head. I meant nothing at all by it, but if the reader has some innate German collective guilt over the terms father/vaterland I'm sorry for him.

Like the hakenkreutz, the term "fatherland" existed before the 3rd Reich and it has and will long outlive it.

Thread officially ruined. Thanks a lot.

Modern Joes actually stand over 4 inches. Many toy lines that claim to be 3 3/4 really aren't.

At the same time, people greatly fluctuate in size. If it wasn't for them being of a lesser sculpt quality, ARAH could fit in with modern era.

Germany! Hoo Hah!

Anyways.. ran across these at TRU this weekend.. they look VERY similar to Bruder trucks, only cheaper and likely made in China.

I couldn't eyeball them well enough to see if they were closer to 1:18, but for $50 for 2.. not a bad deal. I might go back and see what I can do with them.

Well a Marine Corp LAV is 13 inches in 1/18. So at nearly 19 inches I would think these are to big?

Dropshipbob asked me for shots of the 1/18 Dickie Toys camper van with Joes, so here are a couple, taken by myself and my daughter. :)

I figured I'd add a few more (crappy) shots, taken last year.

I'd fully intended to do a review/write-up on my blog, but never got around to it.

Dickie Camper + that 1:18 Airstream camper = AWESOME.

I bought one of those airstream campers a couple of years ago. That thing has so much possibility. Joes enjoying some R&R. Joes on the run. Joes incognito. Dreadnok gang banger white-trash weekend getaway. Chevy Chase dio where the Grizwolds visit the okefenokee swamp. Endless choices...

I have that camper as well as the camping trailer from Dickie. Both are great. Today I think I should have bought two of each. Thus I would be able to paint one pair in order to have it fitting in a Jurassic Park diorama. With obly one of each I hesitate to do so. Be aware that both models are out of production already. Therefore in case you see them in a shop don't delay your purchase.

$39 is a bargain considering how much it's going for on the secondary market.

Wondering what the scale is like on this:

Have to imagine it's smaller than the camper.
