This is entirely fucked up, to take and use a person post from another broad without their knowledge, but this question just popped and my mind and I need to use this quote to illustrate a point

Raw Dog-I agree with your assessment of TDKR. It was a horrible movie. I'm glad that people enjoyed it, but from a quality standpoint it was sub-par. Personally, I didn't find it very enjoyable either.

RoC was great in my opinion. Very enjoyable and a really good Joe movie to boot. I'm also pretty excited for Retaliation which I think will be even better

There's two terms I picked up from other message boards, it's called "stanning, " or being a "stan, the other one is caping. Stan is in reference to obessive stalker fan in the Eminem song, "Stan. Caping is in reference to a rap song by Bay Area rap artist E-40 called Captain-Sav-A-Hoe. Is it me or is their a willingess on on the part of Tankers to blindly accept anything with this logo on it:

In my opinion some Tankers are Joe Stans and are more than willing to "cape," for inferior JOE products. The most glaring example being RoC. Seriously, to say that RoC was better than Dark Knight Rises? Are people suppose to take that opinion seriously? For one thing the special effects were a hellva lot better, and there were two Academy Award winners in The Dark Rises. Or is that we're just too harsh on Hasbro and expect too much from a toy company who's target demo is boys between the ages of 8-12.

Also I another glaring difference I notice between Tank and The Fighting 1:18 is the direction the line should go in. On The Tank, the prevailing thought is the line shoudl go more towards the sci-fi route, while on here guys feel that JOE should go back to it's military, pausible futuristic weapons route. Could somebody please explain the difference in board philosophies?

Can't speak for the entire Tank but the site is a GI JOE site and has some extreme fanboys as you would expect. I don't go to other franchise web sites but I assume if I went to a Final Fantasy, DBZ, Zelda, Gundam or Harry Potter site, it would also be filled with the same "blind acceptance" that a non extreme fan would see as sub par or even trash.

With that being said, I'm a pretty big mark for Joe but I also have my limits. I love Joe for what it did to my childhood and I continue to be a fan as an adult. For me, I enjoyed Joe from 82-89ish. So I enjoy that era of Toys, fiction, comics etc etc. That doesn't mean that everything else is trash but if I had my preferences my Joe would reflect that era as much as possible within reason.

I'm also really into modern military, especially in the gaming world(hence why I handle military shooter game reviews for the site). As an adult in his 30's, I prefer my "toys" and Joe to reflect more of a real life modern military feel. I will still buy every classic ARAH update like Low Light, Airtight, and BAT but if I could go to Hasbro and have a line made for me, it would featured realistic military modern figs.

Not sure if that rant even answered your question but that's my stance on it anyway.

I went into TDKR with high hopes and they were severely dashed. I am one of my few friends who downright hated TDKR. It wasn't fun at all, nor was it very good in my opinion.

ROC wasn't a good movie, but it was better than I was expecting. So as far as expectations went, and what was put into them (caliber of director, actors, effects, scripting, promotion, etc.) and what we got out of them, I'd venture so far as to say that ROC was in fact a "better" film based off expectations.

Rule of thumb: You shouldn't question Tanker logic, especially here. You'll go insane trying to figure out 90% of them.

I can see MR's point. While I didn't "hate" TDKR, I was pretty disappointed in it. As for a "valid point," I thought the plot was pretty clumsily put together with enough holes to drive a semi through. Was it RoC-level bad? IMO, no, but I can understand where someone's expectations could be majorly let down from that movie.

Back on the OP's post: I have no love for the Tank, and even less for Roc, but everyone is entitled to their opinion. My impression is that most people in the Tank disliked RoC as well. To single out a couple members and say they are representative of the Tank is misleading.

I will agree with one point, though...taking a quote from someone in one forum and posting it in another so you can criticize it and invite others to do the same is "entirely fucked up." I'm really not sure what the point of "stan" and "caping" was, but it was not made any clearer by that quote. If you have an issue with someone's opinion, especially over something as stupid as a 3 yo movie, be a man and tell him, don't do it behind his back in another forum.

We shouldn't be using quotes from other site, it's true.

In this case it's his opinion. I haven't seen TDKR, but perhaps it does fall prey to the slump final films in a trilogy sometimes do. I HAVE seen RoC, however, and the newest Bat-film would have to be mightily bad to be worse than the mediocrity that was RoC.

One can't speak to the "philosophy" of a site with thousands of members other than to discuss a property/subject with like-minded indivduals. We started this one as most of us were very much into pairing our Joes with 1:18 military vehicles. We've since had to evolve a bit with the release of 1:18 vehicles becoming less than a trickle. I long ago made the switch, and have given up on Hasbro ever releasing a vehicle worth having. At least PTE occasionally releases a useful vehicle, and I still hope for McF to release that Falcon for the Halo line.

I'm pretty hardcore in the camp of Joes being military. Not necessarily "Future Soldier", as my customs atest I like an older, but decidedly military look. This isn't to say I'm anti-outlandish. Some things should be used VERY sparingly (Wolverine Eyes and his Merry Band of Ninja Ragamuffins, I'm looking at you). I want Hasbro to move the brand forward. If I want figures of sloppy schmucks in utility trousers and sports jerseys I'll buy an ARAH figure. I see very little point in rehashing bad, old designs. That doesn't mean we don't have "Joe should be a perpetual 25th Anniversary line" guys, we do, and for the most part we all get along surprisingly well. It works, as everyone here can generally take the razzing that comes with it.

That quote seriously makes me question some people. When I read something like that, I interpret it as this person thought RoC was okay but was hounded about it. Just to be a contrarion and call out everyone in a similar fashion, he creates a controversial sensationalized support for his argument. This was Gunslingercbr's argument, only replace TDKR with IM2.
