How do you collect?

As in. Do you buy multiples of one certain figure? Do you build huge armies?

Me personally, I like to find what I consider the best version of whatever character I'm after. And then just stick with that. Like right now in my collection I have

TrU RoC Firefly
PoC Lowlight, Spirit, Duke, Snake Eyes
Resolute Beachhead.
Renegade Stormshadow.

I'm leaving a lot out, but I hate having more then one version of a figure. So in other words, I don't army build either. I have a squad of 4 30th Blueshirts that get the job done. I have 1 PoC viper that I use as a squad leader for my blueshirts. Hopefully (Odin willing) I'll be able to sooner or later have a 4 man Cobranight ops team (Dollar General wave).

But the question stands, how do you collect?

Buy what I like/need for parts. Army building at about fireteam/patrol (4-5 men) level only, with certain exceptions. Squads (8-12) tend to be iffy unless you've got the appropriate dio set up for them.

I'm all over the place. When the 25th line hit, that was the first toy I had purchased in over 10 years, maybe longer. With that line I had to have 1 of everything and I collected 10-40 of each trooper. Since that line ended, I'm very selective of what I buy. I mainly just buy ARAH updates like 30th Airtight and POC Low Light etc. I will also buy the occasional figure just to have like the unreleased JP fig, Resolute SE, Red Skull just to name a few.

Back in the heyday it was anything and everything.

Except Huey Cobras and M-113's. Those were stacked to the ceiling at walmart for about $15 and the 113 for $5

I still hate myself for passing on those .

I try to just buy them in a store, but apparently both Hasbro and retailers have forgotten how to sell children toys like idiots.

I buy whatever I like in 118th scale from Joes, star wars, movie toys, etc. I am trying to complete the 25th and Roc lines. (figures only right now). I also Army build Cobras. Regular troopers(blueshirts, vipers,Bats, Crimson Guards) I go for a dozen or so of each type. Specialty troopers, I try to get 3-5 each. All depends on availability. I too bought almost my entire 25th collection on the secondary market. Down to only the pricey ones left. ugh. I also collect all Star Wars sith and Bounty Hunters. I have them all excpet Darth Malgus and I have a 95% complete DC infinite heroes collection. Need black Suit Joker, Hush variant, and non battle damaged Manhunter Robot.

I'm all over the place. In the beginning (25th) I only bought what I needed to make a few customs. Since then I've started buying a figure here and there if it catches my eye.
The only armies I've tried to build are BAT's and the alien warriors from Hot Toys. There have been a few trooops I've tried to build, Shock Troopers, Alley Vipers, DG green shirt Dukes) but even then I only build to about five.

I've always just bought things that I want or catch my eye. Doesn't matter the line or scale or anything. Also how I think the colors or shapes will look in a photograph plays a part factor in it too.

oh and if I actually think I'll play with it or not (pose or building qualifies)

Of some figures I buy only one, of others, especially if they are great basic figures for customs, I buy multiples.
My troops are usually 4-5 man strong Fire Teams, so I can have a team leader, sniper, rifleman, medic, other specialist.

I buy what I like, either as the figure itself or for custom potential. In the beginning of the 25th line, though, I was buying damn near everything that came out, for nostalgia purposes. Thankfully that changed.

I tried to get 5 or 10 of various troop builders. The PoC / 30th Troop Builders were painful but so worth it. I've got 20 each of the Blue Shirts and Vipers, 18 Shock Troopers and 17 of the Renegades Troopers (just because they make badass security guards).

As far as regular release figs - I typically buy one of each unless there's some serious potential for customs or troop builders (PoC Hawk, Law & Order, Steel Brigade).

I buy a few extras on ones that I want to keep sealed - SDCCs, Renegades SS, PoC Ultimate SE, etc. The rest will be opened one day for me and the kids to play.

I bought everything I liked from the 25th and then selected items from the following ones. I planned on passing it all to my son, but came to the conclusion he'll never have the same interest in Joes that I did/do. So I'm selling off my collection and will likely only keep a few things for nostalgic reasons (how I originally intended it to be with the 25th :D).

I enjoyed the ride, but I believe that PoC was the last of the good stuff, so it's easy for me to part with most everything now, as I have less than zero interest in the new stuff to keep me in it.

I'm down to a small tub of figures that consist mostly of fire teams of Joe and Cobra troop builders. As for individuals, I have about a dozen figures that work as civilian survivor/militia types. I'm well under 100 figures total these days and have only seen 1 figure in the future line that I would want.

I collect both vintage and modern Joes, but I have a modest collection (compared to others) of them. I also have maybe a dozen WW2 German troops from various lines with the intent on making a Red Shadows force.

My biggest collection by far is my knockoffs collection. I absolutely love hunting vintage Joe style o-ring figures. Finding a figure I've never seen before is like Hasbro releasing a new Joe to me. It's amazing how many figures out there look just like Joes, but go unknown.

I used to collect moc only...then due to space in my lock-up[it's also my studio, where i paint and make my art],started opening up a few .now it's mostly loose[in fact, now i think i've got a better loose collection than the moc].the most i've ever bought of one character/figure is five[zombie viper]...everything else is three,[shock troopers, alley vipers, shadow trackers etc].i also have a large star wars and movie figure collection too...but most of those are bagged up loose now.and i always buy two of the sdcc exclusives if i like them[one moc,the other loose]...started doing that in 2007 with pdd.
