took about 15 mins total(although the groundwork isn't dry)

I'll do a quick how to tommorrow but for now heres the step by step pics

The wooden border around the base will be painted black, the masking tape is so no clumps of groundwork get on to the sides

the materials

groundwork applied, also dab a sponge for extra texture(I use this stuff for 1/35 most of the time, so I wanted more texture)

static grass androck pathway added

Not much too it, simple but effective, when I do a larger more complex dio I'll do a step by step showing many modelling techniques

the groundwork.

It is a shit ton of white glue, lots of cheap brown paint, some water putty and water all mixed together. I also use celluclay which is a premade paper mache, just needs water and white glue.

static grass

Heres a how to http://thepaintingcorps.blogspot.com/2009/03/friday-quick-tip-static-grass.html

Because I apply the static grass while the groundwork is drying you can just skip over using white glue, the water putty(or celluclay) will hold it down.

The rocks are ballast, used for trains.

Both are made by woodland scenics(their static grass is by far the cheapest)

I also have the two small circular containers of static grass(1st pic) which are blends that have a varying color, don't know who makes them but they looks awesome! Very expensive though(each costed as much as a large container;seen in the first pic; of static grass), and you could do the same thing with a few containers of various colors of static grass
