Not meant as a hijack, just showing you what the BBI bird looks like with the short struts (off a PTE bird). It requires some weathering and drilling/dremeling of the existing mounting holes, and a BIT of plastic stretching, but it's not bad.

Ah, I bought that shell from Apache and the skids were one of the missing bits. I was thinking of using a set of PTE ones as an easy solution. Haven't I discussed this with someone here?

EDIT:

I've been looking around, and the M3P off of the 58D is good-to-go on 500s, as are M3Ps in pods. I'd really like to see a GAU-19 made for this thing, too.

And then there's this stuff:

http://www.mdhelicopters.com/v2/530g-include/md530g-missionequip.pdf

Another big issue is M134s. I know Vortious is casting the War Machine mini and feed chute (which really needs to be lengthened), but it's kind of small. Still think the Revo Mini WM M134 might be the solution.

Maybe I'll buy one of them WMs and send that 134 to someone to cast. I know I'd rather have those on my bird than what's on there now anyway.

I'd do it, but then I'd kick myself for buying a $40 figure just so I could get the gun and chute cast. :D

Bbi "plumbed" the damn plank for 134s, I don't know why in the blue hell they didn't just do the damn guns, can and chutes.

Revoltech Micro Figure RM006 - War Machine - Iron Man 3 (2013 Movie) Figures

And strangely, someone I know has preordered this for me. (I mean me.) >_> <_< So we'll see how the M134s scale when it comes in, and I can ship it off to be cast somewhere.

Edit: If I wanted to sacrifice my super cobra I'd snag the GAU-19 off it and find some way to enclose the back for the bird too, but so far the bastard is in one piece(even after being shipped 1700 miles).

But then you'd also have a kickass 1:18 WM after you got the pieces back! That's how I'm gonna look at it anyway.

Never been impressed with the Revoltech stuff in-hand, and I'm not that big an IM fan.

That's not a GAU-19 anyway.

Israeli MD-500 Defender Walk Around Page 1
Try the walk around on that IDF TOW Defender. I'll keep looking, though. The dog house should open.

No, you're right. It's an M197 or something, isn't it? They look similar.
Yeah. Similar, sure, other than the 197 being a 20mm cannon. :D

Then compare those to the 30mm the AH-64 slings around:

Hello Fellow Fighters....here is something that I don't do on other people's customs unless requested and willing to add to their bill. Engine compartments aren't seen very much because they are a pain in the ass and take awhile to design and fit and imagineer because their is not 1/18th scale engine's for anything....in our scale....(scratches head)....you know what I mean....this is only for mine. The time involved in this is crazy and these won't be in azslogan's choppers. There are certain few things and steps he wants, this one mod wasn't one of them.
I'm going to cut the skids on this one and that will be a few more hours....but look cooler I think. I've still got to line up the doors and construct hinges that fit.

Engine...compartment....cowling

Thanks guy's for the pics/references

Stay tuned for more....:)

Amazing, amazing engine. At least your 1/18 scale engine isn't out in the open like this 2011 1/18 scale Skycrane.

Just a heads up on your FLIR Little Bird. Where the exhaust exits to the rear there is a tailcone. That is there because the FLIR Little Bird utilized the 2 side mounted exhausts which were called the Black Hole system. The regular rear exhaust provided a hot spot for enemy gunners with infra red capability. By utilizing the side exhausts the hot exhaust gases were mixed with the downwash of the rotor blades to lower the Little Birds infra red signature. I don't know if the engine plumbing you did works with the FLIR Black Hole system. You might need to use the engine in the BBI Troop Little Bird with the normal rear facing exhaust. Not sure what you were planning but just didn't want you to end up with an incompatible design.

Yeah that was a first thought and that's why it sets back and I didn't extend the cone all the way to the rear hole....I've left room if I can ever find a pic that shows the system so I can construct it. Its fine for now but if there is a picture of the 'black hole' system, I'd appreciate a pic or two.

The hinges are a little bit brawny but beggars cannot be choosers. There might be smaller one's out there but I can't find em.

Do they have HL in Canukistan? It does look good, and the lowered skids are definitely the right call. I'd probably "glass" the FLIR lens.

If you decide to TOW-it, I'd look into replicating the mounts on the IDF bird I linked to. I'm highly dubious of the correctness of the high factory mounts.

HFF...I haven't decided what to load on it....I really like TOW and the GAU19 versions or maybe a mix...I might buy some aluminum tubing and try and construct the rocket pods....and the camo version goes very well with my forest dio.

If you want to know where the exhaust comes out of the turbine just look up Allison c20b in Google. The two different exhaust configurations are just ducting. The two short stacks out the side are in fact more of a straight shot out of the N2 turbine. The reat exhaust is ducted from the mid point of the turbine all the way down and out the back.
Ambient air comes in behind the rotor mast into the compressor through diffuser tubes around the side into the burner can at the bottom. Air then flows back toward the front of the turbine from the N1 to the N2 wheel and out the exhaust....that probably wasn't clear but all the info is online. Good pictures of the turbine in a Hughes fuselage are difficult to take because of the angle it is mounted. Same turbine as a jet ranger.

Thanks WB, finding certain pics was very difficult for me so thanks man. I'll fix that stuff a little later on as I'd like to make azslogans choppers, he's being patient and watching what I can do with these. I'm trying to convince my wife to make a trip to the states so I can get more casting stuff....shipping it costs to much, so I can cast the rocket pods and make the GAU19's and the TOW's. I have to be patient as well i guess.

Earlier in the thread Diggler mentioned the possibility of casting the BBI Kiowa rocket pods for use with the Little Bird. I expressed interest in several sets. If no one else expresses interest this opportunity will slip by. If anyone else is interested please let Digler know. Thanks!

So here is the last post for my own little bird...azslogan's will be posted here next....

So I added my own rocket pods, they are made from brass tubing, I also used the mini guns from the PTE model. The belts are elastic bands painted, the side doors are to protect the interior or the LB...

These are the rocket pods that the debate was about....I just made my own.

The last thing to do is the windows above the back doors....I'm just going to cover the holes with some sheet metal. :)
