I've never heard of someone with spare parts for the F-14's and the only guy I know with multiples is down to a pair of them after selling a couple for northwards of $750 each.

I should have kept my Black Knights one! Dang it! I think my wife's stepdad's father has it.. I'd lost most of the armaments over the years though.

Though truth be told I still have no where I'd be able to display it.

Yep, I've got my "major award" (thanks F1:18!) Spotcat hanging in my home office with the Hornet, Viper, Apache and Super Cobra. I don't know if it has faded or if I have just gotten used to it, but it really displays well, and the spots are hardly noticeable.

Reboxing one would be an absolute hassle (I didn't even try when we moved), but if I had a NIB one to spare, you bet I'd ebay that puppy for that kind of return.

Wow. That's an impressive, unintentional investment. I wonder if sitting on it longer will create even better returns.

There's definitely not a lot of this scale model work being done right now, and maybe never. If it truly has dried up permanently, those who do want something so massive and glorious will have to pay a lot for it. Even at $1K, I'm sure that's cheaper than commissioning an individual scratch unit (fully detailed like that) from the ground up or purchasing all the tooling and supplies you'd need to make your own.

I think maybe so. And I can't even find any for sale. I wanted one but couldn't bring myself to get one considering it was smaller yet more expensive than the F-14. Considering what we know now, I'm kicking myself.

Yeah, I like the Harrier, but I couldn't justify paying the price either. I really only have one jet that would make me lose my price inhibitions. Well, maybe a couple, but only one I would have to own if it existed.

As time passes and supply dries up, they enter museum level rarity. Remember, I mentioned a while back that I recognized a 21st Super Cobra at the National Museum of the Marine Corps. You gotta figure these could have huge value to those who have real world experience with them.

The Black Knights F-14 sold for $2,450 on eBay!

So, ThunderDan19, what's you price limit for an A-10? Not a homemade, fra-gee-lee one, but a factory produced beauty.

Hmmmm, depends on how secret squirrel I could keep the amount from my wife. :p

I would happily pay $200-$300 for a BBI quality (fully painted/detailed, durable) 'Hog with pilot and appropriate weaponry. That could ride up to $500 if it were somehow limited or otherwise super rare (assuming the model got everything right). I would probably have to draw the line at $1k. To even consider it at that price, I'd have to have come into some bonus travel money or somesuch. I couldn't justify taking normal family money off the table just for something (even that) awesome to hang in my office.

I sit here thinking a grand, but I think if it really came down to it, my sane self would interject. $500 really does seem like the high bar. But if it came in at $650 after I set my line in the sand, I could see me justifying the extra $150...somehow. I mean, especially looking at what's happened with the F-14 turning into an investment.

Yeah, like I said, a lot of things would have to come together and be perfect for me to go there. It would have to be a near museum quality piece for sure... and my wife could never know... :p

It's easy to talk up small increments when it's something you really want.. so you justify $650 from $500, but then maybe it's $750, but that's not that far from $650.. and you really want it.. and oh, well, $995 isn't that far from..

I don’t think it does (I’ve never opened the gear doors - they never seal back as good as on day one). Mine was new in the box as I recall, so I imagine it has the original gear on it. I’ve only had it hung up “flying” since.
